Coping! How would you if someone you knew..?

Recommended Posts

How would you react if you discovered a loved one, relative or friend decided to become an adult entertainer (dancer, MP, SP, pornstar )? A daughter, sister, niece - how would this affect your relationship with the person, and how would it affect your interest in seeing providers after that. I think it would be beneficial to get both provider and client perspectives on this, so all responses are welcome.

P.S - I posted in the Ottawa section - however mod please feel free to move to the "General section" if that seems more appropriate.

My current BFF Best Friend forever is a former dancer and escort. I treat her like any other person. And if she or he is of legal age and it is a choice not a forceful thing. I would support that person.

As long as they were not forced into doing it, and are enjoying what they are doing then I would support them no matter what.

I totally agree. I have a best friend who is an SP and we shared some great times together just as I would with friends in other business. The only difference is we can talk openly about this business. This is a matter of personal choice.

I too have a good friend in the business. Interestingly, her sexual exploits before she became an escort and the ones she continues to have in her private life are far more adventurous than her professional ones, though she has many satisfied clients and offers a good range of services. She's also one of the smartest, nicest and best people I know.

My initial reaction would likely be surprise then curiosity.

I recall one of Cat's posts regarding 'end of the month SP' and if this is the case with a loved one, relative or friend I would try helping them out.

I believe entering this profession takes either courage or sheer desperation or both. I respect the courage and uncomfortable/dislike the circumstances leading to the desperation. Canada is affluent enough that this should not happen especially to those who aren't gaming the system.

I believe we make the best choice we can given the circumstances and my understanding, sympathies and respect would increase for the individual.

Since I have met providers who consider this their profession and truly enjoy the work I don't think it would effect me much. In all it would reinforce the idea that an SP is human, someone's mother, someone's daughter, someone's friend and should be treated with the same respect and dignity that you would accord to another profession [1].

My 2 cents.

i dont know if its me but you always put some mean unessesary (discretly) comments... ( I am sure I am not the only one who noticed it)

from my point of view... ladies who decide to do this by themselve do it for good reasons ,Obviously for financal . If you are smart and dont do stupid things, bein a part time SP can be the best thing that can happen to you! No stress for money for school or whatever you need it for!

What is wrong with Dreamer asking this? I am not sure why this made you want to jump in with a comment like this here on this thread? Looks to me like a dig at Dreamer? Something going on I should know about??

Why do you ask ?

Pure curiosity - I believe we have a diverse membership here and am curious how the members would react/respond in this situation.

Hypothetically speaking-

My Reaction ..probably first would be very upsetting, and I think that would be a majority of hobbiest that have sisters 1st reaction (not surprized or curiosity) I have a younger sister if she was an SP it would be hard to understand.

But certainly would show my support mentally, fianancial, respect her wishes and what ever it would take to support her.

I would rather that than a politician or lawyer, at least they are honest about their talents and expectations!

cool I have wondered the same thing ... personally I have never had someone I know go into the profession but have met ppl outside this industry to find out that they are or were an SP ... it did not change my view of them at all.

Mod I have no Idea why ... could be an upset regarding a previous situation/thread or just a simple misinterpretation of the intent of my question but I am not offended either way.

If it's not going to escalate then I am no longer concerned. Thanks.

When some people find out it's usually by me telling them....i have had reactions from"wow cool", to "your going to hell". Mostly thought curiosity...people like asking questions....especially once they understand why i do it...and how much fun i have.

If it was my daughter I would have to really sit down and have a chat.

Just discuss the possabilities of change.

My girl friends, well I have had two girl friends so far want to start in this industry and that can be beneficial to me. More fun for me :-)

What if you are an sp getting calls to have an appointment booked with a gentlemen that you are sure you know. You know his voice like the back of your hand. He confirms his real name. You knew him from your personal life before becoming an sp.. do you tell him on the phone who you are or do you wait till he comes to your door to surprise him.

I had to choose one. Which would you choose?

my half a cent

Tell him on the phone. Give you both the choice to decide then if you still want to meet in person.

I suppose I started by knowing SPs (male and female) on their off hours. It was just part of the background I grew up in. There was little conversation about the business, but it was accepted by all in our group, those working, and those on the sidelines.

So what would happen if a family member or friend let it be known? Based on the past, not much. It's a job.

Now tell me you are a scuba diver for the Toronto Police (a real job) and I will express sympathy and ask you why?

I have to say that every SP I had the pleasure of meeting was wonderful. I have the utmost respect for them; they provide a fabulous service that is anonymous and without strings attached. If someone close was in the business (and I have met some), I would only hope that it remained a secret and my feelings for them would not change. As the "MAN" said "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone".

Nope, I won't ask why. From talking to former LE members, having to go down and dislodge what becomes a "floater" after the body has been underwater for a few weeks is something most of us wouldn't have the guts to do. And there's more, all of it pretty gross, but we won't go there.

This is an old thread but I thought I'd resurrect it on the chance that newer members may want to comment on the topic. The original question:

Didn't realize this was an old thread until I read your last message, Seymour. Actually, the question posed by Samanthadowntownottawa intrigued me, I'm curious, how did you handle the situation where somebody you knew contacted you?

Strange but I never saw this thread before. Reminds me of a movie I saw years ago when a middle age businessman travelled to a city where his daughter happened to be a first year college student. He decided to relax after some tough daytime meetings, and in the evening called for an escort to his hotel. When he opened the door, to his total surprise or shock (and shock of his daughter who thought his parents are in a loving relationship) the escort lady was his baby daughter:shock: whom 18 years earlier taught her how to walk!!!. His reaction was not very understanding.

Going back to the original question in the thread, How I cope or what I do- Just like any risky job (like a police officer, a soldier in a war, a pilot, a fireperson ....) I would be concerned about her safety (and escorting is risky too especially if it is not done properly) and will advise her on the risk associated with the job and how to minimize the risk. Same thing that I always do so when I meet a lady who advertises on CL (by advising her to come and join cerb and advertise here only and limit herself to cerb clients, or always have the clients' email and phone number or always do outcalls with a driver outside watching over, or never do anything bare, etc.). I am not trying to run anyone's life. Just giving some free advice. It is hard not to care about someone that you encountered for an hour so intimately lol. A close family member, even more so and likely don't have to justify my interference either.

This actually did happen to me. Years ago, a cousin started working in erotic massage, in order to pay for nursing school. It has been my experience, that my cousin didn't change because she worked in the industry. She was still the exact same person, she just had a rather unique job. She now works as a nurse. My best advice, is not to focus on what she is doing, but try to focus on why. It isn't going to be forever, and you can't change it, so where is the point in worrying about it?

I think you will find different reactions here than from non-hobbiest's. A person not exposed to the things we do here are not as liberal thinking IMHO.
