You see the little bar with reputation points on it at the top right of each post? It used to be the case that if you mouse-over this, you'd see alt-text which would vary depending on how many rep points the poster has, so you'd get things like, "XXX is a new member," and "XXX has over 1000 reputation points!" Once someone has more than 10000 of them, it said, "XXX is a god". And thus began the tradition of kicking off a congratulatory thread when someone hit that landmark, although I suspect it doesn't happen for everyone these days. And also Mod seems to have turned that alt-text off at some point.
