As long as the motion detector kicks in, it can take a picture in total darkness and you can't even see the flash go on. I have pictures of a black bear eating apples within feet of the camera and he's completely oblivious to the camera! Bears are known to attack and destroy offending cameras! It's an amazing gadget.
