R.I.P. David Bowie

Recommended Posts

Saw him at Cobo Hall in Detroit with Tom, what an experience! His opening number was Major Tom, started in a fully dark arena, spotlight came on and he was hanging up about 20 feet and 10 rows out when he started singing! He will be missed.

Deeply saddened. He was an innovator and and a cultural icon. A unique presence.

Bowie was always ahead of his time with his music, personas and genres. Will always hold his Ziggy Stardust dear to my heart. What a performer and great person. He will be missed.

Legend, genius, artist.

Additional Comments:

BTW

a fun website that shows you what Bowie was up to at your age...

running a bit slow today for obvious reasons

Very sad indeed. The songs all seem to have new significance today.

For your final journey:

Ground Control to Major Tom

Ground Control to Major Tom

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom

Commencing countdown, engines on

Check ignition and may God's love be with you

Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Lift-off

This is Ground Control to Major Tom

You've really made the grade

And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear

Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control

I'm stepping through the door

And I'm floating in a most the peculiar way

And the stars look very different today

For here

Am I sitting in a tin can

Far above the world

Planet Earth is blue

And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm fast one hundred thousand miles

I'm feeling very still

And I think my spaceship knows which way to go

Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)

Ground Control to Major Tom

Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong

Can you hear me, Major Tom?

Can you hear me, Major Tom?

Can you hear me, Major Tom?

Can you hear....

Here am I floating 'round my tin can

Far above the Moon

Planet Earth is blue

And there's nothing I can do

Safe travels Mr Bowie. You will be missed.

Ground control out.

This really hit me hard. I'm not normally somebody who gets upset about celebrities, but this one really bugged me. It really feels like it shouldn't be over. I feel like the surprise announcement from David Bowie should be that he's touring again, not that he's dead.

David Bowie always seemed to put sincerity first. Both in interviews and personal choices. A career that was unique and wide ranging from the very beginning. He pushed the social boundaries in a way which encouraged exploration and communication among people. He made it OK for people to step out of the norm during some pretty conservative times.

How many creative souls took root because of his inspiration?

We really need to acknowledge the creative souls in each of our lives and reciprocate in some way, because all too often, the creative life is a short one.
