Ohhh....ewww....yuck! Sounds terrible. I'll go for the pizza maybe but will consider this fair warning for the other stuff!

You mean Orleans Blvd. (South) and Jeanne D'arc. Yes, I agree, the food is very good there for a roadhouse/sports bar type atmosphere.

I also like the new K S Restaurant in South Keys (across from Walmart). The prices are higher since they acquired the new building, but the food is still good. I was a table with 4 other people. We all ordered something different and everything was scrumptious. And of course we got a pizza for old times sake!

And the waitresses are all sexy (and food better than Moxie's).

I have only been there for breakfast since they moved location. Is the pizza as good as it used to be? Did they keep thier recipes and kitchen staff or is it all new?

Yep, the pizza is exactly the same! The first time I had it was way back in the late 70s when I lived with my parents at CFB Uplands.

RedDogg -- you are talking about House of Georgie's pizza just off elgin around the corner on Gilmour. that place is legendary. Many late nights ended right there. (or Elgin

Street Diner for that matter). Thanks for the memory.

Omg. Good restaurant and Ottawa are like oxymoron.

Got use to life in a small town when I first moved to Ottawa and can't think of a more affordable place to live.

But honestly, I'll never get use to the crappy restaurants here. Even the gem in the rough I've been to are "not horrible" at best, a 3 stat star anywhere else, but 5star apparently in Ottawa.

The only place I've come to tolerate in the Ottawa area is chez fatima's in hull.

Just remember to brush ur teeth before visiting a sp just out of respect that she may not want ur aftermath

Sounds like you don't get out to many restaurants in the region.

They also make a passable pizza, and a pretty good breakfast. Living 5 mins from there and 10 from KS, I too frequented both. Back when Hunt Club Road went from Bank Street to River Road!!! :D

Thanks FunJay - That's the spot! I don't know how many shirts I ruined walking (or stumbling) home while trying to eat!

Another of my faves was D'arcy McGees for Robbie Burns night. One of the better places for a wee bit o' haggis to celebrate the day.

Okay I have to put my two cents in.

Two places in Ottawa rock,

1st place goes to "so good" on Sommerset try the Salt/Pepper or Peanut sauce Tofu. MMMM

2nd place if you are a fan of Steak and who isn't "Hy's" is the place..

Now I am Hungry

A couple of places come to my mind;

For a good steak, The Keg and Steak (nice Steak-frites, very loungy), both in the market.

Som Yum Thai, on Kent, for lunch

The Works, for Burgers; haven't been there for a while.

Piccolo Grande - Ice cream and gelato.

Ahora's

Piza-za, for thin crust pizza and salads in Hull

Best lebanese counter would be "Le coin du Chiche", rigth across Terrasse de la chaudiere, on Eddy street in Hull, but never on a day where you've got to meet a "date"!!!

Like any Metropolitan, you can find good and bad here. One more than the other depends on where you like to look.

Off the bat. Social, 18, Beckta, Les Fougeres, Royal Thai, Hy's, Havelli, East India Company, Coconut Lagoon, Johny Farina, cordon bleu ... the list goes on. Mind you, they sometimes have their off days. I always like to challenge the chef to raise the steak a little, and see if they can make some of my favourite dish just a little better.

I've yet to eat outstanding chinese or vietnamese food in Ottawa, so I reserve any name dropping as of yet. I'm still looking for suggestions on really good Sushi place, but have given up hope many schools ago.

Atmosphere and frame of mind is just as important as the quality of the meal. Most of the time, if you are trying to impress someone by taking them to your favourite restaurant, don't over build (hype) it. They might not have the same taste. Let the food, atmosphere, and sparkling company speak for themselves.

Wow. Definitely a thread that I can sink my teeth into. :)

Firstly, when it comes to a steakhouse every patron loves his/her cut done to his/her expectations of "done-ness" (Just made that word up!). Consequently, even the best houses get bad reviews from discriminating palates. All that being said, there are good ones in Ottawa. Prime 360, is one of the spots that gets many rave reviews and almost as many enthusiastic "thumbs downs"...go figure. For my dollar, it's a great spot. the service is professional, the Scotch selection is FANTASTIC!!!, the cuts are interesting and delicious. For example, I love a bone-in strip loin and it's so hard to find in town. However, Prime 360 has it. Also, the damned restaurant is just below the Minto Suites, hands down the best rooms for weekend romps!

Now, why more folks haven't mentioned le Baccarat or L' Arome in the Casino is beyond me...two fantastic spots.

Juniper on Richmond Road...excellent. They're holding their annual cooking competitions this year, too. Worth checking into.

Best burger...Try Vera's in Bells Corners, inside of The Butchery. They're new to Ottawa but have more than twenty spots out west. Delicious and juicy. I find that The Works overcooks their beef, leaving it way too dry.

Whalebone...know how to make fish interesting. Very cool atmosphere, too.

For a national chain, Moxies is very good.

Bekta, 18, Foundations, Social...all worth a visit but, in my opinion, over valued.
