I'm no lawyer but my guess is the police would need to do more than ask, they would need to get a warrant

Internet User's Privacy Upheld By Supreme Court. Again I add the caveat I'm no lawyer, but if internet users privacy is upheld, that would include things like emails, pm's, etc

Pesky thing for police, the SCC and the Constitution

it is quite clear that they need a warrant, Even if they wanted the info due to investigating a violent crime, having to get a warrant protects the site from revealing info that they have promised to keep private.

Escorts get or can get city licenses, so it is unlikely to now be considered confirming something other than time and companionship. i imagine some may get licenses they might not otherwise have gotten, in order to further protect clients. A client could reasonably say the escort is licensed by the city to not provide naughty services, therefore he most certainly did not contact her for the purpose of getting naughty things done to him.

Photos on most advertising sites already have to comply with non-graphic rules. I consider this a good thing overall. There is no need for closeups and full spread out nudity, it isn't like it is a mystery as to what is under the lingerie.

I can't personally see there being an issue with the word "escort". It simply means companion. You can be a companion for a dinner date, an event that requires you bring a guest, or even just for company. It doesn't automatically include anything else in my mind. None of these activities are breaking any laws. Maybe I'm wrong but have always thought of it as a word we use in order to avoid words with stronger implications. Just my opinion though. Others may see the word differently.

Escort is fine to use, it means date. Problem is cities can actually license escorts. They require police clearances, huge fee's, big restrictions, heavy by-law enforcement, etc... Windsor, Winnipeg and Calgary all know all too well. Cities like Barrie and other parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan also have escort by-laws in place.

I am in no stretch a conservative supporter or voter. Bien au contraire. I am not sure that voting for a different party would change anything though, in an immediate future at least. It will probably take a long time before this new bill is amended or cancelled. Whoever will come after Harper will want to see what are the effects of this repressive legislation. It may take years, even decades, before serious studies are conducted and conclusive to that eeffect. A newly-elected federal party will likely have other priorities on their agenda that sound far more important as a citizen (unemployment, education, environmental issues or international commitments), and this is what would ultimately convince me to cast my vote or not. In any case, the last topic I am interested in reading about logging in here is politics. Sharing views on the Bill C-36 and its motivations, intent or application is fairly legitimate. Calling to boycott a political party on this sole account is a totally different thing I deeply disagree with. IMHO.

They are called CONSERVATIVE for a reason! THEY OBJECT TO ANYTHING THEY FEEL IS MORALY QUESTIONABLE! They depend heavily on the church and christian morals. THE ONLY REASON they got this law passed is because they have majority goverment. NONE OF THE OTHER PARTIES WOULD HAVE PROPOSED SUCH A MORAL BASED LAW and no otehr seats voted for it!

LIBERAL means they are more LIBERAL (forward thinking)

NDP is all about business

GREEN is all about ... Green things! Lol

If you vote conservative you can expect more crap like this. I must agree we all need to boycot this party! Anyone who says otherwise should review what the conservatives preached when passing this bs bill. They are taking more and more of our freedoms from us and us Canadians are too passive to do anything about it! We must get rid of this majority government and 200+ thousand visitors to cerb a month is a good example of how powerful the internet is and we should NOT SIT IDELY BY AND LET THEM TAKE OUR FREEDOMS LIKE THIS ANYMORE. WE SHOULD BOOT THE MORAL DO GOODERS OUT!!! Then challenge this new law again as the courts will again toss this out cause it takes our freedoms away!

Since when are the dippers all about business? We've had them in Manitoba for 15 years and they most certainly aren't about business unions maybe but not business by a long shot. As any business person would confirm that the sooner the PC's come to power the better. The Libs don't really even exist in MB, if they did there would never be an NDP government.

And check out the state of the game in MB, not a lot of disposable/discretionary income for most.

Peace

Perhaps a legal Federal party needs to be formed called The Anti-Conservative Party (ACP) to make sure those Bible Thumpers go down to defeat.

PC = progressive conservative. I call bullshit on that one! Sure a little more forward thinking then old conservative but still bullshit! Boycot them all, in fact i am throwing out anything i own that is blue and just boycotting the color too. You know how much work and stress and headache they are causing us. Taking freedoms away. No friends here if you support this current government!

Vote liberal or green if you don't like ndp ... Just don't vote blue cause this bill and new law is exactly what you can expect.

Are you crazy? PC's have done nothing but taken away our rights and freedoms and are taking more and more of them away each day. They sold us to China and now this. I sure love the fact that anyone can get sued now when in opposition to harmful outcomes that affect us all greatly. Harper needs to go, he's worn out his welcome as it is, as have his cronies.

Not crazy but a little odd for sure :) In Manitoba we need change as the dippers have driven us into a horrible financial crisis which will take decades to get out of. I'm a policy type who is swayed but overall platforms not specific items.

As an example I support the decriminalization of marijuana which should automatically mean I should support the Libs and have in the past (a Trudeau, Chretian and Martin) but this one issue will not sway me if the overall platform sucks.

To each their own....

lol. Somehow that seems just a little bit more risky. I agree it makes no sense how porn is legal because other people are watching, both are actors still being paid. Yet two adults cannot do this in their own privacy without an audience and have it be legal.

I do not believe you can make commercial porn in Ontario. I recall some law about that. Quebec I think is ok.
