Burner phone. Help!

Recommended Posts

Would someone be kind of enough to give me steps to secure a cheap burner phone in Nova Scotia?

Where to buy a phone? Can it prepopoulated with a phone card? Will be able to text? Do I need to “register”with a phone network, or does it just work?

Hey Midwestman,

I may not be of help as I don't live in Nova Scotia, but do you have "Pay as you go" phones there? those are in theory burners, as when you buy them you do not have to setup an account. You just call in to activate it with the free time that comes with it - then you can buy time cards, or use a credit card to add packages to it. At no time does a name need to be linked to it.

You can get them at Bestbuy here in Ontario, among almost any other electronic store. Usually for $50-$100.

To add to what Cerbmod posted, many cellphone providers also sell online affordable burners. Also, major grocery chains like Loblaws do cell cheap phones, sim cards and top up cards that can be activated online.

Just a question of finding the best for your needs.

The SpeakOut service at 7/11 is quite nice. They allow you to buy as little as $25 air time that expires after one year. With Bell and Telus, they want $100 minimum for a service that lasts one year, or at least that's how it used to be the last time I looked. I remember that with Bell, if you only bought $25, it would expire after 30 days. For someone like me, who only really needs a phone to call CAA if the car breaks down, an emergency $25 per year service is all I want or need. Of course you need to buy a phone and a SIMCARD from them, but it can all be done online or at the counter using cash.

See post #8 of page 2 on this thread. It's about Burner Phones.

I will add to this:

-Chtr will allow you to register a phone online without ID.

-top up cards that expire after 30 days will have the remaining funds returned if you top up again within 24 hrs. Also, you will receive a notification that your top up card is about to expire, so you will be aware.

You can also consider texting apps?

You can, but some providers screen on this basis. Unfortunately texting apps are used by timewasters.

Understood, but texting apps remain the most secure and practical mode of communication.  Perhaps an alternate solution could be to use a normal phone to establish the initial contact and then switch to a texting app for ongoing conversations.

Texting apps may be the most secure but in this lifestyle the real reason they would be "secure" is because a lot of companions won't reply to texts from text apps.  I've read Tweets from more than a few ladies and they are frowned on. Someone using them comes across as being a time waster and evasive.

Simple solution buy a new phone for every date, you could get a basic phone plus phone card for under a $100.  Just as an example here is what Best Buy offers in pay as you go cell phone                  https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/category/prepaid-phones/743456.aspx?&NVID=shop;cell phones;Prepaid Phones;lnk;c1;r5;en      There are some phones going for $39.97 and $44.99  You could buy a cheap phone, budget that as part of the cost of the date.  After the date is over destroy it and throw it out.  Next time you have a date buy another cheap phone

Anyhow, a rambling

Maybe get a second sim card which is easier to hide than a second cell phone. Many ladies have certain protocol in place to book an appt. They may not accept texting apps.

Ive had clients book for the first time with their actual cell number and then switched over to texting app on subsequent visits. However I won’t book new clients from texting apps unless they use their own number first and then switch over. I consider my safety far more important than booking an appointment.

Unfortunately texting apps have created a lot of problems for providers whether it’s time wasters booking appts with no intention of showing up, jealous competitors with an axe to grind or pimps booking fake appts. I’ve googled a few numbers from those wanting to book an appt and was another escort! Not booking through texting apps has cut down on a lot of this as well as no shows.

Purchasing and keeping a cheap burner phone discrete is a simple solution. I disagree with RG's suggestion of getting a new phone for each visit - too much e-waste and expense: spend your money on more frequent visits/visit more providers! I don't have to worry about my phone revealing my activities nor identity (single) but if you can't keep a burner phone discrete then there are other areas where you're likely going to expose your recreational activities.

I graduated from using payphones (ladies could watch me make the call from their window, lol) to getting a cheap burner phone, which I think I lost with a year, to simply using my actual cell #. I like it that the providers I visit can identify immediately who is contacting them and they always reply appropriately and discretely. I don't believe texting apps afford the same comfort and assurance to the ladies we wish to visit.

I started a thread seeking the same advice as the OP a number of years ago but the advance of technology and pricing has made the suggestions in it obsolete. That said I don't imagine that texting apps have contributed anything to this industry - they are, at best, unhelpful

I actually do agree with you about the phone, buy one and just use that.  Me I use my regular phone which is on a plan and which I also use as a home phone (I don't have a landline)  My suggestion about buying a cheap phone for each date was more a suggestion to alleviate concerns about secure communication...although I don't think it's practical.  As long as texts are not explicit there shouldn't be a concern.  And keep the phone password protected so you and only you can use it

Anyhow another rambling

Just a question; By using your regular phone / real phone number, are you concerned with your activities potentially being traced back to you? E.g. LE gaining access to an SP’s phone records and text messages? Perhaps I’m just being paranoid with that possibility actually occurring. However, after C-36, it seems more hobbyists are switching to burner phones to avoid such a scenario. Also, is it possible to just buy a pay as you go phone from Loblaws or Best Buy without signing up with them and instead insert a burner SIM card from another provider like 7/11 or Petro Can?

I'm not concerned because the texts sent and received don't talk details, just things like confirming the date still on, room number restaurant we're going to and time.  Even in emails (which has in my experience the preferred method of contact both by ladies and me for seeing companions) are in fact pretty neutral (a guy looking for a date, happens in civilian world too)

In my newbie days (and pre C36) I did put in a couple emails asking for dates details because I thought that was what potential clients had to do, but I learned and certainly don't do that nor haven't done that in years.

In short, and JMO don't discuss details like money (it's in her website) or details, keep the texts it in the context of this lifestyle bland (just looking for a date) and you should be fine. Likely it's putting in the texts talk about money for graphic services that'll get someone in trouble

Again just my opinion, and just my experience

Any phone from anywhere and any SIM card from anywhere can be used, but even for pay-as-you-go the phone itself still needs to be activated. With 'Chatr' this can be done online and without ID.

I suppose it could be traced back to you if LE felt inclined to do it. I suspect that's highly unlikely; despite C36 making it technically illegal, LE really aren't interested in what consenting adults do in private. They tend to focus on the street workers (they're visible, so people complain), and underage and/or trafficked providers. And, of course, the clients who see them. if you stick to reputable spas/agencies/independents, I don't think LE's out to get you.

It also depends to come extent what you have to lose. If you're single and retired... well, what does it matter if you get found out, really? If you're married and work for a highly sensitive part of the government and are a high-value blackmail target... well, it might be more of an issue.

I use a burner phone, but my big reason for doing that is to prevent the likes of Google, Facebook, etc harvesting the phone numbers and emails I get in touch with for activities relating to this board, and then using those to sell me things or suggest friends for me. Best that our corporate overlords never know.

What about PC Mobile? (Loblaws/Superstore) Is that the same type of setup as Petrocan and 7/11? E.g. A phone you can activate  and add talk time without providing any personal information? I heard Koodoo is taking them over.

I have used a texting app on my main personal phone for years with no problem whatsoever and have never not gotten a reply from ladies I wanted to meet.  It as been a non issue.

While I am sure many will roll their eyes - recommend a BlackBerry smartphone ... the newest models (KEY1 and KEY2) have a feature called "Locker" a segregated part of the operating system where you can put pics, videos, and most importantly Apps that you do not want anyone to be able to access on your phone.  Anything placed in this area does not show in the APP list and can only be accessed by either a password or a fingerprint identity.  You can use apps on other phones to do some of this but this is not an app it's part of the operating system.

Just my Opinion
