On the side track issue, yes I don't actually know of any doctor, chiropractor, or dentist or other similar professions that don't have 24 hour notice requirements, before charging the client for the appointment that they no show or cancel on the same day. In these days of medical insurance, I would hazard a guess that those who don't know about these standard policies just don't know about them because they don't pay out of pocket. I book appts for a friend for a chiropractor that has to be paid in cash, and get reminded on the phone that if the patient is too late to make the appointment and the doctor can't see him he will be charged for that appointment anyway (because he is chronically late) I also get involved in booking hotels and exhibit booths, and some hotels and all exhibitions require prepayment. The exhibit is paid half in advance, and the other half closer to the date, but definitely prior to set up. Some hotels require payment of the first night, which is non refundable unless changed 24 hours in advance. So if the party arrives to the hotel and doesn't want to actually stay, they will still be charged for that night regardless. Lots of examples of such nonrefundable or cancelation policies are out there. Like it or not. And the difference here of course is that sps who do not have the good reputation or professionalism are not the ones coming up with cancel fees. We are talking about sps who incur costs to provide that appointment, who have solid experience, history, and reputations, good business practises, good ethics and good attitudes. These are the ladies who not just deserve to be compensated for that no show or late cancel, but need to be because they are the ones who went out of their way to accommodate the client's requests. Same with some sps require deposits for longer appointments, travel arrangements etc, non refundable as well. For other sps, we work on short notice, same day bookings, use confirmation calls half hour prior to the appointment time, and other ways to reduce the impact of no shows or late cancelations. We are unlikely to ask for or need any cancel fees, because we are unlikely to be out of pocket just setting up the appointment for the client in the first place. Some sps do cancel last minute, and some maybe should be offering a discount on a future visit, but when they cancel the majority of clients are not actually losing the appointment fee. It is, for the most part, still in their pocket. It can still be used to see the same sp, another sp, or go towards the bills. When a client no shows on an sp who has a more involved booking process, lost income cannot be recovered most of the time. They don't have a waiting list of guys to call in the event they get some time freed up. And that is really what we are talking about in these cases.

I am a picky eater and if I don't like the appearance of something or think it will taste a certain way I won't like, there's no way I'll eat it and for some reason there was something about cherries that made them be among the food I would never try. Yesterday I decided to break that rule and I'm glad I did :)

On the issue of referrals, it might be a good practice to ask a lady, perhaps via e-mail after you've seen her, if she'd be willing to provide you with a reference. This clearly signals that you are planning to see other providers, although to be frank, I can't see how this would be a surprise to her. The reference system is an important vehicle for enhancing safety and security. I can't see many providers not being willing to provide a reference to a good client because they are upset he's seeing other providers. This is the nature of the business, even with regular clients. Ideally, she should want other providers to also see good clients. That, it seems to me, is good for everyone's business.

I've had policies about deposits and cancellation fees for years with very few problems. It does make a difference that I'm an established professional companion: many of my guests come to see me because they know that I'm not some newbie who may not be willing to work or may not be as discrete and considerate as she should be. I don't take last-minute appointments. Same-day opportunities may be available to established clients, but there's never a guarantee. A new client might get to see me in a couple of days if we establish a good rapport very quickly, but I give first priority to returning visitors and may not be available without a bit more notice. I often book anywhere from a week or two to several months in advance and most of these engagements are several hours long. If someone is coming from out of town and booking well ahead of their visit, I do ask for a deposit. I require deposits from anyone who books long engagements--perhaps they want to meet daily for 3-4 days or a weekend. Plans and circumstances change and I am cheerful about refunding deposits when such things happen, although that's rare. I have had clients who needed to re-schedule and have asked me to hold a deposit to be used against a future meeting. That's not a problem. If someone in the Lower Mainland schedules a meeting with me and then cancels abruptly, I don't make a fuss about it, but the next time they want to book a meeting I will ask for a deposit. I've never had a problem with this. I also think that things have to be taken on a case-by-case basis, as others have said. I'm not here to complicate anyone's life. If we're planning to meet tomorrow but your child is in an accident, your mother suddenly goes into hospital or you've had a car accident, I will understand. Life happens at the most inconvenient times and I prefer to be thought of as considerate, kind and understanding.

I love receiving emails saying thanks for the great time. I do reply to them. However, I generally don't send out emails if they don't send me one first. I am always worried that if I do send out an email, its not at the right time for him and he has someone looking over his shoulder at that moment.

I always send a brief thank-you note afterward (well, unless the thing went disastrously, but that's almost never happened). I suppose it's part of the way I manage the emotions involved in the experience, putting the last feelings away somewhere safe and then moving on.

I will send a thank-you Pm here on Cerb but once a client has left my company, I will not send a text for discretion reasons and I respect their privacy. I remember being initially confused as to what counts as a post and what doesn't when I first started participating. One thing to clarify is that leaving a comment on someone's wall (on their profile), private messages, commenting on a picture, or commenting in a social group do not count as a post. Basically, you have to leave a comment here in a forum subject. As MOD says, if you click "reply to this thread" you know you're posting. :)

One week ago today I was just getting out of the hospital from being quite ill and having pneumonia and a body full of infection. I live in a mid sized town outside of Toronto. I like that fact that I'm close enough to the city to get in there when I need too, but far enough outside to be outside of the smog most of the year, and far enough that I don't have to fight traffic to go shopping locally. I like the fact that I'm within 5 minute drive of farm fields. I feel safe in the community. At the local shops and plazas the parking spaces are wide enough so that we don't hit the next car when we open the door. I also like the fact that from my house I can walk to shopping centres (about 1 km to 2km) that have 90% of what I could ever need to buy (though we usually drive, I walk when I can -- and that walk doubles as a workout).
