I am picking this up from where Taloon felt that he had to leave off and I hope that this will work out for all. On June 22nd in downtown Halifax there will be a meet and greet or informal social. Not all ladies require references, but it's wise to be prepared for those who may request them or state on their ads or websites that it's a requirement. Make sure before providing a reference that: you have her permission to do you give her the heads up that a particular lady may be contacting them the lady you're giving the reference to has the other lady's correct email address If you're a newbie and don't have a references, there are some of us who do accept appointments from first timers (most of us just require a valid callback number and decide by "tone" of your request). Bottom line - always respect a lady's booking requirements, whatever they may be.

As someone who has lost a close family member to cancer I am always touched when I hear of people doing things like this. Good for you! Sorry to hear about your wife. I hate to sound like a know-it-all ex smoker but I really think you hit the nail on the head. 20+ years ago I was a pack a day smoker, I woke up one day and said that's it, I don't want to smoke anymore, haven't had a cigarette since. I know it's easy to say, I realize everyone is different and there's more than one way to quit smoking but I recommend cold turkey. E-cigs, patches, pills, there's a lot of products out there to help you and if it does the trick go for it. I was a long time smoker and in January 2011 I switched to an e-cigarette. Technically, I quit smoking but I took a very slow path towards cutting down the nicotine. Well, this *has* been an interesting thread! I didn't know about the secret user notes :) Anyway, a few thoughts on the topic at hand... First, one which has been mentioned already but bears repeating: not everyone may be OK with a list of SPs they've seen (and possibly when) being available, even if only to other SPs. They whole privacy/discretion thing *is* an issue, more for some than for others. I know *most* SPs are absolutely fine with the idea that their clients, even their favorite ones, see other SPs - but as BackRubMan noted, this can be awkward at times. Second: what if one of us guys asks a lady to post a reference for us on CERB (by whatever means) and she declines to do so, for whatever reason? We're well into the awkward zone at that point; it might be better for these things to be played out somewhere less public. Third: what happens when ladies retire? People come and go all the time, and they don't always clean up their accounts here when they do. I'm not sure of the value of a reference from someone who's no longer in the industry. Fourth: should there be built-in time-limit on these things? I always try to provide a reference from someone who I've seen fairly recently, but I don't know if everyone does this - and it may be impossible for those who see SPs infrequently. How useful is a reference from someone I saw once, eighteen months ago? Finally: I was under the impression that the ladies sometimes use the ability of a potential client to follow simple instructions as part of the vetting process. If your website clearly states that a reference is required, then it really ought to be in the initial email; if it isn't, that's perhaps something to be considered. After all, as one of the ladies has mentioned elsewhere on this board (I can't recall who or where or when, sorry): someone who can't follow an instruction like, "Please provide a reference" may later prove less likely to respect a request like, "Please don't do that". Automating the reference process removes this tool. I'm not sure how much any of these points will weigh with people. I have to say I like the idea in principle, but... there are pitfalls.

After getting messages from several members and subsequently rereading my post regarding the local ladies, I think I came off as very harsh. I love how this applies not only to CERB, but life more generally. It only takes a moment to make a difference in someone's life. A passing hello, a "how are you?", a "do you need help carrying your groceries?". Sometimes it's recognizing a person's vulnerability, or giving them back their dignity when someone is being disrespectful. It's those little moments that are so important, and they are apparent on CERB (and in our lives) everyday. When we're rushed we have a tendency to forget how a moment can change someone's life. We're so impatient as a society, and I try as best as I can to take my time and be mindful of those around me.
