This may be the time where the rubber meets the road. There are industry standard labels and acronyms now so if things were to change drastically, so would that verbiage. Then it becomes a matter of both sides paying attention and respecting the other. By this I mean, coming up with new ways of saying old things. Instead of a BJ or HJ it could be verbal or non verbal communication (depending on whether your mouth is full or not). There will always be advertising so unless they're going to rewrite the laws every time a new innocuous term to describe a sexual act comes into play there are always ways. New comers on the SP side will have to do their homework to understand how the laws impact them and terms that are acceptable. New clients will have to respect the SP's and their terms or risk being shut out. There are ways to reduce the risk but it will still be a risk so until everyone gets used to it, there will be a lot of tension and sensitivity. Those who don't listen, pay attention or offer respect will pay the price. Right now anyone can pop in and out of the industry with little to no problem. They don't need to be serious or long term. If the laws pass as is, this will be more difficult to do. I still see boards like CERB around, just in a different way unless they can be under the radar by being a "non public" place hosted outside Canada. I expect phone use as opposed to email and text will flourish once again. The one thing that those in favor of this bill have ignored and continue to ignore is the fact we are not ignorant, stupid, or victims and we will find a way to prevail and flourish. It won't be easy but it will be worth it and meanwhile, the fight for change will continue. Being pro-active not reactive will go a long way.

I haven't seen one recent poll specifically about C-36 that suggests any kind of support for it. I've seen the question, do you support this bill, be answered anywhere from 78% NO to 92% NO.

Well, first of all the initial question is a moot point because this is not the Nordic model. It is way way worse and for sex workers as well as clients. One can always change their minds, as I have done in the past, but I believe that I have decided upon a course of action. Whether it is in fact practical will be determined by what this new proposed law REALLY means, and what the police do with it. My rationale for what I am thinking is multifaceted but primarily two fold. First, as much as I respect what many have said about the police not doing serious enforcement, and not having budgets to do so, in my situation I do not believe that to be the case. In a larger city such as Ottawa then I probably would agree with that. I am in PEI however, a very small place with a very conservative population. ( I don't mean politically). Under direction of Charlottetown city council I could see the city police being directed to take action. It would make a lot of people VERY pleased to see that PEI is indeed upholding its, values`, and is nothing but a family vacation spot. Whereas we are such a small market and there are very few women that travel in here, it would be nothing for a single officer to track her from our little airport and from there get to her clients. I`m not a cop and I am sure that I could do that simply by following the advertised dates of availability.` The second factor in my tentative decision is based on the advertising provisions which are really yet to be clarified. Mr MacKay was very clear at his press conference that he considers the internet to be a public space and therefore will be inaccessible for advertising. IF, and that may be a big if, he is correct, then really it will be impossible to know when a lady is planning a trip and even then illegal for both of us ìf we communicate. I honestly do not accept that new code words or offers of free sex are going to hold water in a court room. Finally, I went about fifteen months between Cerb dates, so for me celibacy is a viable, though not preferred, option. :( After all of that preamble what I am thinking is a variety of things. Carried out my democratic duties today.

I had an amazing day. It was another perfect outdoors day and I took great advantage of it. Grass cutting, sitting on my ass weeding and a few outside chores that had been postponed just too many times were accomplished. I had some GREAT conversations and that included a few arguments and I won them very convincingly. :) I actually spoke by telephone with someone else involved in this business about the political debacle and it was SO nice to do that. I have thought of this quite a bit since my return to Cerb, but I really miss WIT and Samantha Evans right now. I miss their insight and wisdom and since I have met them both in the past I wish that I could have a conversation with each of them. I am not a huge soccer fan but I just cracked a beer and will begin right now to watch the first world cup game and hopefully find what it is that is so compelling to so many people around the world. This is long enough to be a blog entry and not that anyone would want to read my blog posts I am thinking of starting one. I don't accept anonymous contact, discussion or booking. Which includes forum handles, and emails, and chat (which is enabled on a few ad only sites, meaning that someone with a handle there will not ever have posts or a profile that can be reviewed) I feel it resolves a lot of issues. Plus when someone is told via chat, email, or pm that they need to call for the info, and that phone call never comes? tells me everything i need to know about them, i.e. they don't or won't respect the sp boundaries and/or requirements.

I go with my intuition and have a conversation with them for a few minutes. I really doubt that the LE and the cities with their tight budgets will get into a very complex and expensive surveillance on the individuals when they communicate between themselves to book an appointment or to inquire about the services. There are so many other threats to the safety of the Nation that they will do then as they do now. They already try to focus on the child pornography issue, but their resources are not enough to cover that task, more crucial and important than the communication between an honest hobbyist and an honest SP. For Harper, and his supporters, what is annoying is what you see in the street. For that matter, the street workers will have a hard time, and their safety will be at risk. And Street workers are not the ones that use computers and emails to promote their business. Look at the presentation of McKay on C36: the purpose of C36 is the safety on the streets... not about the safety of the street workers. This new bill is so full of non-sense that it will be overturned by the SCC. What we have to do is to help those who will contest C36 in court, like Pivot Legal Society of BC. When I say help, I am saying to support them or group alike with our donation. It's in our own interest and in the interest of the industry. We all know that money will be the tool to win this legal battle; Harper has access to our taxes to fight against us; so we have to be strong together. The other thing we have to do is to make sure that Harper and his party will lose the next election. And really, do you think that Fort McMurray and the tar sand industry could last without the SPs ?

He may be opposed to legalization because of his own beliefs, but he does credit most Canadians with being able to decide for themselves what is right and wrong for them, without having the Government dictate it for them. Stop reading the Toronto Star and listening to CBC radio, Robert Fife and all the rest of the sensationalist journalists. See what the law says before we start crying gloom and doom.
