Hmmm, I don't know how to say this without upsetting anyone. I get that MJL wanted to take some sort of action. I commend you for stepping up to the plate and filling (what you thought) was a gap in the discussion. However, I have to say that the major issue with the happy hooker narratives is when the anti-sex workers employ these arguments, "If you are so happy with your job why aren't you out and proud as a sex worker?" Well there are a lot of reasons why, the main one, criminalization. As a sex worker, if you are charged with any prostitution related charges, then you will not be able to cross the border. If you are a mother and you are outed as a sex worker, you may potentially lose your children or access to your children. If you are a sex worker and are working other forms of employment, you could lose your other forms of employment. If you are a sex worker and a student, you could potentially damage your future career--yes some sex workers only do this part time and to help fund schooling. If you are a sex worker and you volunteer with certain organizations (or want to volunteer with certain organizations), sometimes those require background checks and/or a "clean" criminal record. Some sex workers are alienated from their family/friends and/or their personal/professional relationships are harmed and they are pushed further to isolation and alienation. Not everyone can be out and proud because of the risk of criminalization which contributes to stigmatization, alienation, and isolation especially for the most marginalized sex work populations. There are so many other things you could lose access to if you are out and proud as a sex worker like access to equitable health care, access to housing, access to safety and security, access to social supports--this isn't just about a few sex workers who can afford all the nice things in life, plus happiness and more. While I get that the intentions were good and that someone wanted to have their story heard, that could have been done in many ways that does not feed into these anti-sex work narratives. The antis and the government HAVE already said that if you are safe and it was criminal before, then what is the problem with sex work STILL being criminal, As quoted by Hillyer, "In the sex worker's letter...if these people are already willing to give their information during this illegal activity, I am not sure why they would not under this new legislation." The site says, "a happy hooker is a safe hooker" and if this all that is needed, then I am certain that the antis will also say, "well, you don't have to have your work decriminalized for your safety then" and they already HAVE made this argument plenty of times--they always argue, "this is for the victims!" and this is what the happy hooker site contributes to--these happy hooker/victim narratives. The site basically says that sex work doesn't need to be decriminalized and supports the intent of the Bill, which is "to protect the victims and if you aren't a victim, then you don't have to worry! The Bill doesn't worry about you!" You can be a proud sex worker/hooker/whatever but when we feed into these larger discourses, we run the risk of hurting the case for decriminalization which is access to rights not access to happiness. I hope, Jessica, you realize that nobody is attacking you personally. I also hope what I said was clear and if you have any questions/comments/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or reply here.

Inducement or not, Genevieve does bring up an amazing point. VOTE. VOTE. VOTE. I had a conversation with a provider just last weekend, and she claimed that she was sick and tired of the way that the current government was ruining her life. I asked her how she voted in the last federal election, knowing that she was of legal age at the time of the last ballot. She claimed that she did not vote, that she thought it was stupid. I retorted that if that was the case, she had absolutely NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. If you don't cast a ballot, you can't bitch about what we get as a government. You obviously don't care. If you did care, you would do your damndest to get a government that cares about your needs. It's 15 months until October 2015, BUT.... we have the power to begin the end of this government. Find a local politician representing your views. Support them. Canvas for them. Fund parties other than the CPC. Talk to friends and colleagues about the disgust you have for the current government. Bill C36 is just one of the countless ways that the current government has disregarded the opinions and desires of the Canadian public. Research their legacy. It's BAD. In Ottawa alone they are responsible for the loss of well over 20,000 well paid jobs. They wanted to abolish the senate but filled it with their corrupt friends. They turned the cyber bullying legislation into a way to spy on EVERY ONE OF US. Joy Smith wants you to have to contact the internet companies to opt into porn. That's evangelical censorship. I am sure that you could find countless other fuck ups by the current government... from fighter jets to foreign workers, senate scandals to supreme court stacking... this is just a BAD GOVERNMENT. Sign up and support the other parties now to end the tyranny!

and that has been my point all along. That you guys couldn't see the point of the comments that were being made. I can't be more clear than that, and I really dislike when I see someone trying to downplay the intentions of those who commented prior to the changes on the site. I guess I was expecting some kind of statement with an apology or thank you to those who pointed out the flaws in it. You need to be reminded that no one is saying your intentions weren't worthy, just the execution of it was flawed enough to create debate. That alone should have gotten y'all to sit up and look it over. There was never any need to get so defensive & you all came out offensive, that's all. The only reason I am commenting, for the most part, has nothing to do with you or MFF, it is for the other readers. Whatever the topic, I feel that what was said or done is being misrepresented by various comments, obviously i will speak up. That is what people are used to seeing when I post lol I doubt if I will change. This is cerb, we don't expect attacks when we post, btw. i thought everyone was being very reasonable when they made their comments. Clearly, the main page was changed. There must have been validity in those comments, is all I'm saying.

My opinion is that you wouldn't go wrong with CMJ, Angels, Paradise or an independent. You've made the best first step IMHO and that is starting off on CERB. The agencies and independent ladies who are here are all top class. I doubt you'll be disappointed in the experience. You'll see a slight difference in booking/approach with an independent lady but that is simply because of the business model. Some guys have a preference of one over the other. I would suggest visiting the profiles of the spa ladies and independents to find a woman that interests you. I'm a bit of a 'researcher' and chemistry is important so I'll often look at a ladies posts or maybe connect in the chat room to find someone who I'm not only physically attracted to but, I think we'ld also enjoy each others company. In my case I've seen Sensual Erin and Jessica Massage in Ottawa and would love to see either again. CMJ, Angels, and Paradise also have some great ladies who I've connected with on CERB and I'm sure I would enjoy seeing. Best of luck!

We had the province send our dad a notice to be retested, it was not connected to us. He failed and didn't drive again, but he ranted for years about the "stupid kid" who examined him being biased against old people. Good for you for taking this seriously! At the park yesterday saw an older woman who clearly should not have been driving. She was up on a sidewalk in an area filled with toddlers and babies in strollers. People tried to direct her and it was an uncomfortable scene, she was arguing and defensive.

Your feelings don't matter. How I feel about sex work, how you feel about sex work, how the antis feel about sex work--doesn't matter. You can write your letters about being happy until you're blue in the face, but they still don't matter. We can certainly feel offended and upset, but at the end of the day what matters is the laws cause harm. When you view sex work as work, feelings are irrelevant to the discussion. What matters are labour rights.

I was biting my tongue up until this point because I didn't see the point of continuing when you were so intent on finding things to be offended about rather than considering what people were finding problematic. However, you don't see anything rude or disrespectful about what you posted? I personally took offense to your comment about "people who do sweet fuck all" -- because you have NO idea of what people have or have not contributed. Nor is it an excuse for you to dismiss their valid concerns.
  18. 2 points
I don't see anywhere I was rude or disrespectful or offensive, or defensive in fact if you read the thread again you will see that most often many of you were complaining because I allegedly "ignored" you..... I do see some seriously catty posts from others. Like this one for example... As I'm a sex worker, my feelings about sex work DO matter, but I refused to be baited and I think that frustrated people. Most recently I was politely responding to a comment by another member. It wasn't directed to you or any other poster. As clearly indicated by my quoting her specific comments. Please don't respond for her. If the preamble satisfies you then I'm not puzzled as to why you chose to keep bringing up a conflict that has been resolved.

After a recent trip to Niagara, I have to admit that those of us in Ottawa should be grateful for the wonderful MPs that offer quality service in our fine city. I will not name the establishment I visited in Niagara but suffice to say the price was nothing short of shocking and the service left a lot to be desired. If this establishment were to operate in Ottawa it would quickly find itself out of business. Never Again! If you are going to visit Niagara I would suggest you will get more out of a lap dance at the Sundowner than you will at any of the MP establishments. So here is to our cities great MPs!!!

Dear Jessica and All, I commend everyone's desire to fight Bill C36 -- but this IS NOT a strategic way to go about doing so. I understand that it is frustrating to always have your work stigmatized as 'bad', and to hear that we are all 'victims' and 'exploited'. However, instead of fighting this rhetoric, you are actually reinforcing it. Street-based and 'survival sex workers' -- the same as yourselves -- do not want or deserve to be stigmatized and criminalized in these ways. By making a distinction between 'happy' and 'unhappy' hookers, you are reinforcing the same stereotypes that we all want and need to fight against. In fact, a colleague from Stella originally thought that the website was fake, and put up by sex work prohibitionists who support Bill C36 - because it reinforces pro-C36 arguments instead of fighting against them. IT DOES SERVICE TO NO ONE to push a 'happy hooker' movement, especially at this current moment when we are fighting Bill C36. In the Bedford case, the Supreme Court of Canada struck down three key provisions of the Criminal Code - bawdy house, communication, and living on the avails - because they were found to violate the Charter rights to SAFETY AND SECURITY for sex workers. Because sex workers faced undo harm as a result of these laws, the SCC found these provisions unconstitutional. Bill C36 is supposed to be a response to the Bedford decision, and as such must ensure the safety and security of sex workers. By putting forward a "Happy Hooker" movement, those involved are actually supporting Bill C36, because you are not recognizing the harms done to ALL sex workers through this legislation. It doesn't matter whether we as sex workers are 'happy' or not, or whether we like our job or not -- WHAT MATTERS IS THAT WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAFETY AND SECURITY, and Bill C36 will only reinforce the same harms that sex workers have been facing for decades. I haven't had a chance to read through this entire thread, but I wanted to let you and others know that Maggie's DOES NOT support this 'Happy Hooker' campaign. Maggie's supports the right of ALL SEX WORKERS to live and work with safety and dignity - whether they are classified (or classify themselves) as 'high end', 'happy', 'indoor', 'having mixed feelings', 'just paying the bills', 'street-based', 'outdoor', 'combination indoor/outdoor' etc etc. WE REFUSE to throw so-called 'survival sex workers' under the bus in order to push some idealistic notion of a 'happy hooker'. Sex workers, just like any other worker, may sometimes enjoy their job, may not enjoy it, may be happy some days, and less happy others. Sex workers have been organizing for their rights and against stigma and criminalization for decades and decades in Canada. There is a strong and growing sex worker rights' movement in Canada. I encourage everyone to get involved and become educated about issues facing all different kinds of sex workers. We are stronger together. Please do not reinforce the stigma and violence that street-based and/or 'survival' sex workers face. Please take down the 'Happy Hooker' website. Maggie's has never been onside or in support of initiatives such as this which are divisive and dismissive. We believe in working towards solidarity between sex workers, and different kinds of sex workers. We believe in the right of ALL sex workers to safety and security, and will continue to work for ALL sex workers to live and work with safety and dignity. Sincerely, Jean McDonald Executive Director, Maggie's - Toronto Sex Workers' Action Project maggiestoronto.ca [email protected]

Frankly I'm tired of what Peter Mackay thinks is best for me. While I agree with the notion that there should not be any type of hierarchy where sex work is concerned, I do think that those who do this for a living and are happy with their line of work should be heard. While no job is perfect and everyone has their moments, I'm content with what I do for a living and this is about legislation, NOT moral legislation! I will be writing a letter based on the fact that I have a right to voice my opinion not just as a sex worker but a Canadian citizen. I don't believe in different sets of legislation for different types of sex workers because at the end of the day we are all providing the same service. However, I do agree that our experiences need to be told to show such people as Joy Smith that we cannot all be painted with the same brush regarding stigmatization. No two sex workers are the same but the Conservative government seems to think so. I encourage other ladies to write a letter in order to be heard. Let's not make this a debate on street workers v.s. Indoor workers rather women who make up this industry and have the right to be heard. Posted via Mobile Device

While I agree that there us a need to monitor a persons ability to drive I really think this happens now when people see their doctors or as in the case if this thread family intervenes. The last thing I would like to see is our doctors waiting rooms filled up with individuals getting mandatory testing each year for drivers license renewal. Family doctors are already very hard to find in many parts of Canada Just my opinion :)

This is never an easy discussion.... but unfortunately it is often a necessary one... one that has to be started out of love for the other person. I went through this with my father who due to illness and age slowly lost his independence. When it came to his license the final decision by the doctor while not welcome was I think somewhat welcome... dad knew intuitively he should not be driving but wanted to delay the loss of this tangible sign of loss of independence as long as he could. In dad's case it was mom who asked the doctor and yes he was mad and upset when he list his licence... but not nearly as upset as he would have been if his driving had resulted in harm to mom.. his grandchildren or anyone else. it's never easy when we as children have to start caring for our parents....thus reversal of roles is however part of life and your dad will love you for the care you show him.

They aren't receiving the emails, they have no idea what the recipient sees. Letting them know asap is the right thing to do.

Originally on the site, and in notices like this one: These were always the points of contention, plus for some it was the name of the organization. My point is that just because someone is 'survival' doesn't mean that they aren't consenting, or that the laws need to be different for them versus 'us'. If no one else had an issue with these specific points, we wouldn't already be on page 5, and we wouldn't have seen them brought up on at least 3 different sites so far. And that is the end of my most unwelcome contribution to this topic, as I have no more interest in having someone reply to me claiming i am talking about shutting down the whole concept of organized input from sex workers. Other than to say, where was everyone before C36 was introduced, when there were 'say no to the nordic model' polls that they could have distributed, campaigned for, and signed. Where were they in June, when the bill was presented, and the various advocacy groups were out there looking for support? Now they want to rally the troops in time for the Senate. This may be debated in Senate, and parliament, but the war is most likely to be one in the media, imo.

Your movement is based on "like-minded" individuals. Great. Doesn't mean you're not accountable. You haven't listened to any criticisms, you don't seem concerned that your "movement" alienates other sex workers and contributes to divisive politics that get us nowhere. You are actively going against what the majority of sex worker rights orgs are saying. You wanted links to happy hooker-esque movements? They don't exist because they don't work. Do you honestly think you're the first one to come up with this shit? Hello, as I said before, The Happy Hooker was a book written by Xaviera Hollander in 1971, so you're only 43 years late. The sex workers rights movement is about just that: rights. It's not about proving that we're happy. Your feelings about sex work don't fucking matter. The better question is "how are people being treated?"

While Miss Jessica's wording may ruffle feathers, the intention and willingness to take action is undeniable. The providers that have had the opportunity to study human rights and it complexities have valuable insight into the social and legal issues of the vulnerable and I appreciate their attempts to explain it to those of us who are not as fluent in the nuanced language and concepts. Anything that will broaden horizons is a good thing. What I'm always amazed at is how as a collective we agree on the changes that need to be made but how often the intellectual vocal activists chose to criticize action taken that doesn't directly reflect their chosen paths of action. I have lived my professional life believing that being open about what I do with the civilian population actively helps remove stigma surrounding our industry one person at a time. I don't need people to become pro sex work by the end of the conversation to know that I have planted a seed that will grow, slowly entering their thoughts and challenging their belief systems about my work. By providing a face, giving a voice to those of us that society never sees, doesn't even know we exist; I challenge the stigmas they believe directly. I feel those of us who the general public can relate to have a responsibility to put our experiences out there because in fact we are already a part of their lives and they will relate to us in some way, no matter how small. I may not get a warm welcome initially but it's a start. I know they'll respond eventually if I'm patient and don't dismiss their beliefs but simply open a dialogue that allows an exchange of information. Every inch forward where ever it happens is still valuable forward movement imo. The anti's and media parade the victims of violence to the public as the face of prostitution and the public have nothing else to compare it to. They don't hear from us, the quiet majority. We have no public face, no identifiable voice, only activists that the general public seldom take seriously. It's not the anti's we need to sway but the undecided. Giving those valuable undecided something to compare the horror stories to, our experiences is what I believe will help sway those who have yet to make a decision and that is key in starting to shift the stigma away from consensual sex work. While Jessica's approach may not be considered the most effect course of action by some, it is at the very least a starting point that we can build on. I see no harm in supporting it along with the other actions currently employed. We need a multi faceted approach because society is multi faceted and reaching out to them where they are consciously at this moment is the only way to ensure we are heard. I believe that if we had a professional presence, one that showed the general public that this is an industry and there are many within it that have chosen to work in it, it will help us. We need to show them we are responsible business owners, tax paying citizens and good neighbours, giving them informaiton that will go a long way to influencing them to let go of the stigmas they have been taught to believe is key. The vulnerable will not suffer because we up our public presence, they will benefit. As providers we know the vulnerable need to be included and we do not minimize their experiences but at the same time, their experiences does not negate ours... cat

Sometimes I act spontaneously but against my better judgment. Something told me that This was not for me but I decided to give it a try. Despite some only soft confirmation that the pics were her they did really make me want to give it a try. Now the pics very well may be her but I found they painted a very different picture in my head of what to expect when the door opened. She would be more professional to list her height, weight and measurements. She is very tall and I would say curvy. A lot of guys would find her very attractive. I did as well although not exactly my type. as for the "Upsell queen". I can confirm that is true. the rates texted were high enough on their own. If you want BBBJ then expect to have to pay a considerable amount more. I was already there so I did. and I have to say although expensive that it was very good and the description of mouth watering skills is accurate. The Russian experience was also very good. Probably because she is Russian. lol Overall I would recommend if you like tall and curvy. However Because I feel the pics are misleading I would personally not repeat. Also if you like me need to budget your time and money there are a lot better providers who provide value for your dollar and are worth spending a bit more on. If you are new to this hobby I recommend looking at Escorts Canada adds Good ones like Angie, Lexxy, and Manuella Cruz are all coming through the peg in the near future and for similar money you will get much more value.

kinda shitty to say, but i believe it will have to go to a deposit situation if you want to almost guarantee an appointment. something like 30-50% of the fee upfront at time of booking then the rest in person. its sad that it may actually come to this. remember being about to leave the gas station without paying so you could go home and get your wallet? guess its a bit different but almost the same
