I heard of CMJ a couple of years ago actually and it sounded like a whole lot of fun, but didn't really have the ovaries to do it (they're way stronger than balls ;)) One of my friends got a membership last year and was telling me all about it. How great the girls were, how much fun they have, how great the money was, how the club worked as a private, as opposed to public, and he said I would absolutely love it. I can really only speak from my personal experience at CMJ, as it's the only place I've ever "worked": Privacy: walking into the building - our building has the right amount of people coming and going for it to be comfortable and there is zero labeling on the outside of the building at all that it contains a Hostess Lounge. If there was a beaming sign outside that said "you sexy neighborhood rub n tug" I could see it being a bit horrifying. meeting someone in the hall - an incredibly rare occurrence that we, as hostesses, try to prevent at all costs. Sometimes I wish it wasn't so awkward shuffling someone back into a room, but we usually just laugh it off. We peek into the hallways and can hear the doors open and close so we typically know if someone is wandering the halls. cameras - we have cameras only in common areas and definitely not in the rooms or bathrooms. That's for our safety and security, not for our pervy viewing pleasure ;). Experience: bonding with your MA - I absolutely love getting to know my guests. Do all indies take the time to get to know you? I would say some do and some don't. I think it's the same with a spa. Thankfully we have CERB so we can chit chat about what you like prior to a session. Longer sessions are also very accommodating to cerebral massage. clock watching - even when we're having a great time (which is most of the time) we still have to be mindful of the time. If you're concerned for time, we encourage you to book more time. I/we want you to have the best experience and enjoy yourself and not all of us are made with exceptional internal clocks. Sometimes we're booked back to back, sometimes we're not and have a bit more leeway with time. I'm mutually concerned with not being late for my next appointment and making sure my current guest doesn't feel rushed (which I don't like either.) Concern for the MA: scheduling her own time - for the most part, we make our own schedules. If we need to be somewhere before or after and it's not a common last-minute occurrence, Jasmine says "no problem." If we want to run down the street to grab a coffee, bite to eat, or shop at bit, we do that too and give her a heads up that we're stepping out so she can let the members know we'll need a few minutes to get back. I've even gone to yoga class in the middle of a shift because it wasn't particularly busy and there were enough ladies on to cover. I can't speak for other spas, but CMJ is very accommodating. I even book sessions when I'm not scheduled because I can :) making sure she gets all the proceeds - to be completely blunt: this is our choice to make. The MAs that work in an establishment do so for a variety of reasons: safety, security, marketing, camaraderie (which is big for us), having a set schedule, not dealing with "idiots", not having overhead, running much smaller risks both personally, legally and financially, and the list goes on. If you're concerned for us and are staying away because we might get a smaller paycheck, we're definitely going to have a smaller pay check if you don't come see us at all. WealthyCowboy is very kind and generous to tip well, but we understand that isn't an option for everyone. On December 6th, 1989 the events of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal unfolded. It is indeed ironic and sad that on the 25th anniversary of the day that women were killed for choosing a career in engineering that the Canadian government is bringing Bill C-36 into law. It has not gone unnoticed by me that at least some sex workers have dubbed this law as the Pickton Model- a model that will be setting some women up for violence. I have been pretty well absent from Cerb for the last six weeks due primarily to illness as I hardly felt up to even looking in. Now that I am able to do so, and following a six week hiatus, it is quite noticeable to me the change in tone regarding this law and its potential impact. As is probably quite understandable the discussion has become very much on a personal note, where individuals are looking primarily at themselves and no longer at the overall picture. Despite everything that I wrote several months ago, where I was undoubtedly looked at as one of the paranoid and as a naysayer, I do tend to agree that most of us here with exercise of due caution and care are probably not going to be impacted too much. I do however have WAY less trust in police and law enforcement than what seems to be the consensus. I began this post with the Ecole Polytechnique paragraph because what I have found that has totally disappeared from this discussion thread in the past six weeks are concerns for the women and other sex workers who work the streets and those who are forced by their individual dire circumstances to take chances and who are probably not working this trade as their first choice of employment. If and when this law is challenged in the Supreme Court it will probably only be after a long period of time during which many of these women will be abused, injured and killed. It will be those statistics and that data that will overturn this law. Yes, reality for each of us on an individual personal level has kicked in, as it should, but let us not forget the many who are not as fortunate as we may be. Financial donations and support to groups such as POWER, PIVOT, Maggies and others will be critical in helping to protect all sex workers and to assist in a challenge that will ultimately happen well down the road. On MY personal level and very luckily for me, I LOVE and adore cuddling and social interaction. As always this is just my own unique view on whats going on, be it right or wrong.

I'm having issues with the censors. I know the overall changes are a huge ordeal and pain in the ass and still a work in progress, but I think something has unintentionally gone awry. I don't appreciate the way the censors are automatically changing words to other words, and also affecting words within other words. Including not just new posts (which we can preview and change before posting as needed), but every single post on the site, and posts made weeks or months ago that we can't edit now. It's making people's posts make no sense and look like idiots. I was reading a post I made a few weeks ago that made sense at the time, and completely innocuous words I wrote are now changed to other things and what I said doesn't even make sense now, and I can't edit it. I would rather see dots everywhere and let people figure it out than see things like in-call changed to Porn-Friendly or cli-cking changed to cloading and uplo-aded changed to upfuned, cli-ckable changed to clickable (those are actual examples). Most of them don't even make sense. I accept, understand and respect the need to actually censor words, but automatically changing words to other words to in people's posts after the fact is putting words in their mouth and it's weird. There must be a solution. Also, the new words don't actually show up in the "Preview", you only see them after you actually post live.

Been wondering this myself. Although I'm new to this world there seems to be a lot of intelligent and empowered women in this business. Suppose it's like my own chosen profession. For me it was never about money. The fact that I get paid for my time is simply a bonus, means I didn't have to stay at my full time job (which I hated)

IMLO, the practical issues are a lack of evidence of illegal activity, low enforcement resources and the lack of cooperation from the judicial system. 1. It is difficult to obtain evidence without a search warrant, and a search warrant requires probable cause of illegal activity. It's like the chicken and the egg, which comes first... In the case of businesses operating in a private location, I've already covered that: it will never happen because there is no right of entry. In terms of spa's, I've said previously that private member's clubs avoid the issue and spa's open to walk-ins should IMO establish some form of intercom or door locking practices if they are raided so as to give everyone a head's up LE is there. I figure 28 seconds is enough to get dressed (just tried it). And to add on my previous post, if you are ever arrested immediately says only 4 words: ''I want a lawyer'' and shut up. No charges will stick and you'll walk away. 2. Police budgets are limited and Crown prosecutors find these types of cases childish. I know a few prosecutors in Ottawa. They are interested in serious offences, not political agendas brought forward by a conservative government that will, IMHO, fail to obtain a majority government (if any) at next year's election (FYI I have no affiliation or loyalty to any political party). Prosecutor's are generally overworked and most won't want to go to trial. 3. With regards to the judicial process, let's not forget the concept of pre-charge diversion programs (i.e. John School) to avoid ruining family lives over one moment of indiscretion. If it's your first offence, typically they will send the guys down that route. No one will know and you won't have a criminal record. Spas and Businesses may get stiffer treatment, but I sincerely doubt it as long as they stay low profile and don't employ anyone against their will. Well, it's not even 9:00am and I'm already talking about Law, so it's time for coffee now. :icon_biggrin:

This is true. This, however, is not. It won't. No government is going to manage to legislate sex work out of existence. Many have tried; all have failed. They can make it more difficult, and more dangerous for all concerned, but they can't stop it. I can't help but think that they know this, and that the knowledge of their own impotence is why the abolitionists are so *angry* all the time... Let me ask you this: can you name any time and place in history where the exchange of sex for money hasn't happened, to a greater or lesser extent, irrespective of how much the government of the day approved of that or tried to stop it? This has been debated a lot in other threads elsewhere on the board over the last few months, but... suffice to say, I disagree. LE have many better things to be doing than going after consenting adults who are having fun that the pearl-clutchers in government disapprove of. Let me ask you another question: do you think that LE will enforce the new laws more zealously than the old ones? Visiting a MA at her place has always been illegal (it was being in a bawdy house under the old laws). They didn't get raided then. Why should they get raided now? Exactly the same effect as it always has done: none, because it hasn't happened, unless there was a good reason for it. And the only reason for it is that the person being raided has been indiscreet enough that the neighbors have worked out what's going on. The police work largely onteh basis of complaints, and if nobody complains then there's no need for them to do anything. The independent ladies I've met have all been concerned to ensure that they stay under the radar. Of course, it's possible that LE could decide that they want to enforce the new laws far more rigorously than they ever bothered enforcing the old ones.... but I doubt that'll happen, and I'll continue to doubt it until I see it.

I remember reading a thread a long time ago where it was mentioned that the spas often had a camera or two on the front door, but nothing in the rooms - this is so that they have a record of who's visited if anyone tries anything really nasty. This strikes me as being a sensible precaution. One other thing on spas: for me, they're very good for those situations when I'm thinking, "Well, I'll go if I have time." Under circumstances like that you can't book much in advance with anyone (making a habit of cancelling will tend to give you a bad reputation), but you can see who's on schedule at the spas and then call them when you know you're free and see if the MA you'd like to see happens to be available.

But realistically, the chances of LE raiding an independent MA at any time are pretty much zero. Go ahead. Have fun. Don't worry about it :)

As long as you're not located in the North End or some parts of Elmwood, location doesn't matter much to me. All parts of town are convenient to some and inconvenient to others. I would have thought meeting for a coffee would be a good approach, but I see why not now! :-) I appreciate your skepticism kerrixoxo, but I learned about the SP only site because its existence is plastered throughout this site! Almost every forum I've come across makes reference to it, and it's in the FAQ's of this site. It is not a big secret that it exists, and I hope I am not the one to break it to you.

Welcome to the board, Carrie! I hate to be the bearer of bad news (and I may be wrong), but I suspect most ladies won't answer this in public. They all have their ways of screening potential clients and things they do to ensure their own safety, but those won't be revealed here as they generally don't want to make it easier for the undesirable would-be clients to circumvent them. The board has a SP-only section, where I'm sure these things do get discussed more openly - the FAQ has details on how to get access. That might be your best bet.

Ahhh, the ?tipping? debate! I noticed there was a decided void in SP response so I will take a minute to share my thoughts? From an agency girl perspective, tipping is often a way to generate extra income because after they pay the agency and the driver, they usually end up on the short end of the stick. 10 years ago, I ran for an agency, we collected $260 for an hour, with $110 going to the house, $40-$100 to the driver depending on where the visit was located, which left me maximum of $110 with as little as $10 in my pocket. With a $15 book on fee and mandatory car cell phone fees of $25 per night, I needed 3 full fees per night to make working worthwhile, God forbid I get credit card calls, which somehow always worked out us getting nothing. We were not allowed to refuse a call so we had to find creative ways to ensure we were paid. Tipping for extra service was the only way to keep our heads above water. The nice thing was that we had a shift, we worked, and we went home and had a life. That said, it was unfair to the guest who would end up with less than what he expected because he was not prepared for the extra fees. Independents are in a slightly different boat. We usually have a higher upfront fee, but we also assume ALL the costs incurred, which is far more than many realize. If we charged what we feel we should to get our ROI, the protests would be heard long and loud. Many Indies have a smaller bottom line than an ambitious girl at a well run agency. So when it comes to tips, many things need to be considered. In the south, SP's are tipped much in the same manner as a restaurant. Anyone walking a restaurant wouldn?t consider walking out without leaving a tip if everything was satisfactory. I tip everyone in the service industry, from the girl who washes my hair, to the man at Suny?s who pumps my gas because a little bit from many adds up at the end of the day. Flowers and trinkets are lovely in thought, but a girl can?t deposit wilted stems into an RRSP, and my bank doesn?t seem to take dildos, massage oil, garter belts or silk stockings on deposit -go figure! As Joyful C has so wisely stated, most SP?s live a fragile existence financially. We provide an illusion of playful luxury for our guests benefit, but rest assured, 90% of the time it is smoke and mirrors. Behind the scenes we struggle to pay our bills, put diapers on our babies and try to take care of those we love, all the while working on a way to get to a normal existence if that does in fact even exist. An extra $20 from each client equals a full appointment by the end of the week, and at the end of the month that pays the cell phone, buys the groceries and lets us take the little ones away for the weekend after we have paid both rents (home and incall), all our advertising, babysitters, hydro, car repairs, personal maintenance and the same expenses everyone else has. Not to mention the monthly payments on augmentation, lifts, tucks and anything else to keep us up to the exceptionally high standards expected if we want to continue making money in this arena. There are few SP?s who can keep up the daily client service to ensure long term financial viability in this business because of the emotional and physical toll this business extracts which sometimes means extended time offs to get our heads, hearts and bodies back in order. We have no paid holidays, benefits or paid personal days. If there is a crisis that forces us to take time off, we lose money and clients which often means we work regardless of illness, pain or any other of lifes challenges. Each SP has her own reasons for working, but the universal element is that we all are trying to achieve some sort of financial stability. I never expect tips, and I can count on one hand how many I have received since my arrival in Canada because of the nature of the business here. Hate to tell you guys, but Canadian men are not known for their generous nature, they rank a close second to Germans in this realm (I think the outlandishly high taxes inflicted in both countries has something to do with it!). I would never expect a tip from guests that have me on retainer, I see them weekly. But unless you are going to be a bankable commodity in a SP?s life, a tip relative to the quality of service is a sure way to say thank you and have her know you mean it... Catherine
