RG... it now goes to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights (JUST). The committee will meet whenever scheduled - we are not privy to it at the present time. Silver lining??? The vice chairs of the committee are Françoise Boivin (NDP) Gatineau @FBoivinNPD and Sean Casey(LIB) Charlottetown @SeanCaseyMP ... both of them have been absolutely AMAZING and extremely SUPPORTIVE in their interactions with sex workers and clients over the past week and a bit on Twitter. I've had a few people ask me what I think about the proposed legislation. Of course I'm upset at the disrespect and disregard that Pete, Steve and the cons have shown towards sex workers placing them in greater danger than ever before under the guise of protecting our communities, how friggin noble. How safe are those communities going to be with dead prostitutes in them ? Those who know me well know that I use humour as a coping mechanism. This is what I think about the whole sorted mess. Amazing how these guys with their fancy high priced education can't see the difference between sex work, prostitution and human trafficking.

Joy Smith is a powerful and influential MP, do not underestimate her. She says things like "The Criminal Intelligence Service Canada estimates a single Canadian victim of sex trafficking is worth approximately $280,000 per year to her pimp. This is big money, and our youth are their targets." People read that and think every SP is making $280k for a pimp. Speaking on bill C36 "This is a blow to the many brothels masquerading as massage parlours that saturate our communities" Parlours are in big trouble. Smith is very good at painting a black and white picture: ALL prostitutes are victims, ALL customers are exploiting them.

I'm not sure that this is the best indicator on which members to focus on. There are many reasons MP's do not vote on bills. It COULD be that they don't support it or it could be they had other things to do. Bottom line is the Conservatives have a majority. I doubt any Conservative would put their political life on the line for this Bill.

Just wanted to say that after being on Cerb for 4 years and meeting many SP's and MA's over the years that I have learnt a lot about the women who have chosen the is path as a career. Most of them have chosen this career because they enjoy the independence and financial freedom that it can bring. But this job is not easier. Many of them have families or kids to support. University educations that they are trying to complete. This job is demanding as it involves many hours of marketing, emailing, posting ad's answering text and PM's. Trying to get hotel, schedule appointments. The women who are most successful at this job are the one's that truly enjoy their work and like to please their clients. I've met many of these women and have truly enjoyed my time with them time and again. This can be a stressful time as they need the time to prepare the room and prepare themselves for each encounter. Some day's it can busy and other day's not. Some day's they meet some really fun gentlemen and other days, maybe some creeps. Some have been robbed, or beaten up or cheated. Sometimes there no shows or other girls that make fake appointments. This is a hard job. Sometimes it is physically demanding. They give their most intimate moments. It takes a certain kind of woman to handle the emotions and sexual activities that this job may entail. One SP, told me that it's not the physical aspect that is tiring. But the emotional aspect. To be able to pretend to enjoy themselves when they are not. She was saying that in this job she had to be the giver all the time and that most of the men were takers. Her Job was to give them pleasure and most men just used her to get as much pleasure for themselves. These women deserve more, they deserve to be treated kindly and with respect. Respect their time and their contact protocol. Be a gentlemen and be clean. Do not try to negotiate their rates, or push them for more then they are willing to offer. Give them a massage to start, make it about them in the beginning. They may have had a hard day, and appreciated a little kindness and tenderness and relaxation. Talk to them, they are people also, not just objects of your lust. Treat them well and with respect and kindness. I've been told by them, that it doesn't matter how old or what you look like. As long as you are a gentlemen and clean, you will be treated well. Remember, that they are there to make you happy and are providing a very intimate service, so you should appreciate they company they provide. If the chemistry and connection are there, you will have a great time. If the connection is real, it pays to return for repeat sessions. Anecdotes are not acceptable as 'facts' or proper research under any other circumstances, why are they treated as final word in this circumstance. There are plenty of anecdotes regarding how sex work is not harmful as well, so why are those being ignored? I think also it would be imperative to find out what evidence they are actually using, if any :) Additional Comments: Why didn't they vote? Are they just not there? I know Libby Davies wanted to be for the debate, but had committee she had to be in instead. That is a LOT of NDP mps, that vote could have easily been defeated with only a few votes.

I'd like to see them knock off the use of 'johns' to refer to clients of sps. For one thing, it diminishes the real business relationship to put a stimatizing label on what is a financial transaction. In any other situation, you would be called what you really are: customers, clients, etc. Plus, to me, it is the fact of the money that levels the field in the sexual services transaction. Some men are able to coerce sex out of an employee they work with, who works under them. They are trying to equate sp/client transactions in the same way, that the fact of it being sex is what makes the imbalance. The start with a false premise, that there is imbalance like there would be in a sexual harrassment situation, but that is false because this is a situation where the services are already being offered, for a fee. Failure to pay the full fee or any fee, for services provided, is imbalance, but anything under the terms and conditions required by the sp is not. it is interesting the article was posted today, and now has over 600 replies lol. Why did they ask everyone except sex worker rights organizations? I think, Lowman and Atchison both need to be heard at the committee meeting. They have relevant info, the church lady groups do not. Nor do any abolition organization, because they are not on the front lines. A few years ago, the Real Women organization was one of 16 organizations invited to speak to a senate committee on prostitution. That group has absolutely no connection to sex work, not even in the realm of 'rescue'.

There is obviously no political win here for the Liberals or they'd be all over this issue, so they'll pretty much stay on the sidelines in my opinion. There is much more wide spread and public support for the decriminalization of marijuana which the Liberals speak pretty freely about. Not sure if it's strategic or merely an acknowledgement that this isn't of much importance to the electorate at large. Peace MG

This might actually work in our favour. Aside from wanting to be one up on the SCC, it's rather odd that the Cons framed their legislation in this manner. E.g. (to appeal to their base). I would suggest that they've got their base in their pocket, as who else would they really vote for? If all the Cons really care about is staying in power, they should have appealed more to mainstream society,and concentrated on winning the swing voters. It's clear that most Canadians are in favour of decriminalization, even if they don't approve of the industry. It's the principle that's wrong here - trying to legislate morality, passing a bad law in the name of politics, Harper's continued attempts to turn our democracy into a dictatorship etc.. These are the issues voters will rail against in the next election. Hell, even the Conservative party is divided on the issue. Moreover, they know the new bill would never pass constitutional muster, and yet they are hell bent on ramming it through anyway! They are content to make life harder for prostitutes, even if it means some will die. The Conservatives will have blood on their hands from the very people they are supposedly trying to protect. It doesn't get anymore hypocritical than that. Government should take the same approach to prostitution as they did with the abortion debate - hands off! Additional Comments: One more thing... they've since raised the ire of print publications everywhere, since they stand to lose a great deal of advertising revenue under the new proposed law - more votes that won't be going to the Conservatives!

Hello again, I'm not quite sure who gave us the definition of RACISM but within the definition there are highlighted words. I didn't follow them, instead I looked up PREFERENCE. In this definition it mentions the right to choose as well which I found interesting was sexual preference. It spoke of the homosexual, heterosexual and another one that I forget (wouldn't let me copy and paste). Oh bisexual. What I found interesting was the fact that these terms also fit into this whole discussion. I love women and only women. My 6000 post is dedicated to a special person that I'm glad I got to meet and spend many memorable times together and look forward to more as well. Past Thursday June 12, Delilah and I met once again, however this time I planned a more memorable time for the two of us. But I think the incall fell under a grey area, or else we wouldn't be discussing it on here... Outcalls are legal, so maybe the cops just let things be, unless there was an issue. But with this law it will be 100 percent illegal, so the cops will have more power to prosecute us guys. Maybe the resources will not change but that doesn't mean the cops won't do anything, they may just shuffle around their own resources... Who knows. I do agree that the majority of the focus will be on the street workers and not the escorts at the hotels/residences....Cause that's what people see. But it's a chance we'll all be taking now, not sure if I want to take that chance... My chances are good now but not so much with the new law.

The police had that ability and power under the old law. They could have gone after agencies and ladies working at an incall locations for example Why didn't they...yes they had the ability and power, but not the resources...this bill hasn't given the police any more resources has it? Not to mention irrespective of the law, escorts operated discretely. It's the street level prostitution I foresee will still be the focus of LE, not escorts/courtesans operating discretely Just my opinion RG

So what! I have been in this business for 33 years and seen ladies in many different countries all with different laws, and it never stopped me. There is nothing wrong with seeking the company of a woman. Now if we happen to get naked in private, oh well things happen! Its as much legal to give cash to a lady that you spend time with so she can buy herself a gift, as it is to taking her out to a fancy restaurant and paying for the food and drinks.

As I said in other threads this law will hurt.. it will make me less willing to meet / contact new SP'S but i don't see it as the end. The risks for clients are going to increase so i think that will make life much harder on SP'S who may be pressured to do more for less with less than ideal clients because demand will decrease especially on the short term. Those of us who stick it out will find ways to manage...just like they do in US. Just my opinion

Well I wonder how many who are thinking of swearing off seeing companions in the future saw ladies from agencies or went to a lady's incall to see her (just as examples) which was illegal Unless they are really serious (ie increased money/resources to LE) about enforcement I'm not going to worry Maybe I'll celebrate the passing of the bill into law by discretely contacting a special lady and we can celebrate together ;-) RG

I've seen a a number of SP's and liked some, some were average, and some where I wish I had just stayed home. Paige though was excellent and has been the only SP I have repeated with, and the 2nd time was even better than the first. She is a very beautiful girl, a great personality, a very nice body, and seems like she is actually enjoying herself. Her incall is a nicely renovated apartment. I would definitely give her my recommendation! A great experience.
