I sincerely and respectfully disagree with the comments that were written about that article arguing that her action is wrong and unprofessional and unethical. I gave this opinion once before when the topic was in the news and the silence was understandably deafening, but I shall repeat it. IF someone truly believes that Bill C-36 will cause physical harm and or death to even one sex worker, then I argue that taking whatever legal action is required to prevent that from happening is not only acceptable but also a responsibility. If that includes naming a client then so be it. If I threatened a sex worker with physical harm then the fact that I had been a paying client should NOT give me immunity. Threatening to release the names of clients who are planning an action that will kill women is not enough. Doing it after the bill is passed is irresponsible. I argue that if her statements are true then the information should be released immediately to the press before the law is passed and then let the press do the job that they have thus far chosen not to do. Their are ways to do it. In 1974 Deep Throat, whoever he is is unknown to this day, along with press investigation brought down a presidency. I do believe that the hypocrisy of some of these government members, NOT their use of legal sex workers, could cause this government to fall, and this bill along with it. There is a lot of good TV now, with some mainstream movie actors. There is usually one show each season on HBO that I have enjoyed. Transporter, followed by Banshee, followed by Penny Dreadful, and just finished is The Leftovers. Showcase,Bravo and FXC also have shows each season that i follow. Which i appreciate because i don't want to have 15 shows each week that i 'have' to watch, it's all broken up. So Defiance ends this week, and next week Haven will show up again. Before Definance i think it was Continuum. I'm finding the more interesting tv is on those stations not regular network tv shows.

The hearings were repeated on Saturday, and i saw a piece of it with Bedford, but got interrupted. the first time i didn't realize i'd been watching when she was answering questions, mostly because i flipped forward thru Benedet's talking head and missed it. I note that when she mentioned Duffy, that comment was her final one for many minutes, until she got a new question. So in the quote above article, everything after Mike Duffy, she did not say, at least not at that time. Sure, none of them would, they are afraid to give anti C36ers, especially one of the ones the whole SCC challenge is named after, but she had a chance, and to me she missed that chance. And that was the problem with how she was acting inside. I don't think you can argue that her passion is valuable. And her approach, clearly not a victim. It would be hard for any senators to look her way and think that any community protection legislation is going to help her, in fact, it might be used against her if they have their way.

I tried to renew my OHIP card the other day. The only thing I did not have for ID was a drivers licence or an original copy of a utility bill or bank statement with my address on it. I live in a paperless world for most everything. So I downloaded a copy of these documents from my accounts. The OHIP office said they do not accept printer of photo copies. "WTF!!!". They have to be the original document issued by the agency in question. I called to arrange for a one time original copy of each document from Bell, Hydro, and the bank. There are service fees for this now. "UGH!!!" The most expensive one was Bell -- $15 and it takes a week to ten days to process. If only I owned a drivers licence. This all could have been avoided. To avoid this in the future. I am going to get an Ontario ID Card -- $35 and it takes three weeks to process.

Yesterday went to the bank to transfer some money out of a TFSA. Only tellers there, no one there who could do it. But told it could be done over the phone and was provided the number to call. Called it today, and after going through the voice mail crap, finally got a customer service representative. Then after giving all information to ID myself, and telling them what I want, after about fifteen minutes they come back with "we can't do that over the phone, go to your local branch" WTF my local branch told me to call you, and no one was there the day I went to help me do this. Not too impressed. RG

RG I wish that were true. We both know lots of women here who are professional and trustworthy. There are women I trust completely and unconditionally. Boards like this are echo chambers. Everyone here has a similar set of values. Some of us forget that we are a tiny minority in the greater society. Our values may be shocking to them. I think Runciman may have felt she was either grandstanding or about to drop the aforementioned bombshell. I fear she has confirmed a lot of people's suspicions about all the unsavoury aspects of this business. Especially the one about women keeping a little black book of information that could be useful down the road. I repeat, I am totally sympathetic to all her arguments but disappointed she wasted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to speak out for every SP.

It explains how the new law, if enacted, will replicate the effects of the old law on the security of sex workers and, as such, reproduce the harms the Supreme Court of Canada found to be unconstitutional. It further explains how these harms also constitute violations of international human rights law and how criminalization of sex work undermines the global response to the HIV/AIDS epidemics. Finally, it issues a recommendation for Bill C-36 to be rejected in its entirety.

Well, the criminal record part doesn't worry me too much. But that's just me. I think the big thing here is what some have already mentioned. The enforcement of the law. The government will toss a little money at it and in the short term, police will step up the presence on the street side and at questionable agencies where under age girls could be involved. The "Johns" will get busted and the Tories and religious right wing will be singing the praises and twisting their arms patting themselves on the back. Over some time, however, the resources won't be there for L.E. and prostitution in this country will be like everywhere else in the world. Supposedly illegal to buy sex but most cops just looking the other way other than in circumstances where it is blatantly being exposed to the general public. All these "morality" laws are just made to appease the do-gooders who don't want to see it. Honestly, I truly believe if you were to sit down privately with most cops, they probably aren't too much in favor of this legislation. It just creates extra work on an already heavy workload. That's just the way I see this going. Sex has been "for sale" since the dawn of human history. I doubt this will have a great impact in the long term. I also doubt the cops will be targetting touring or discreet SP's and their clients as much as the guys picking girls up off the street corner. Having said that, any decision I make about continuing this hobby or not will be based on many other factors, not this one.
