Over 11 or so years in the business I've learned not to get angry. I don't even get frustrated anymore. I just say, if you can't enjoy it don't do it. So I enjoy the job and take pleasure in it. However, I am a bit mad at this new stupid law and wanted to write a letter. If you have a letter or a sentiment for our dear government, please feel free to share. Here it is: Dr Mr Harper, On the eve of C36, I present my life as a downtrodden, needy, and damaged woman forced into the sex trade by my own bad judgement and a number of shadowy pimps: I am 30. I have two university degrees and am starting a third degree in 2015. I spend my days smiling, laughing, and being happy. I am on my way to a great career. I have travelled the world. I like myself. I am healthy and in great physical form. I have friends and lovely family. I struggle with certain things, just like any human being alive. I speak two languages (unlike Harper and MacKay). I am an engaged, ambitious, and productive member of society. I pay my taxes. I have no addictions- not to drugs, not to drink, not to exploitative men. I am a companion, or cuddler, or woman, or whatever the linguistic result of your semantics war. I now live with a little more fear and paranoia thanks to C36. Thanks, Mr. Harper, for saving me from myself. I have a terrible life and I am in need of rescuing. However I'd like to point out that the worst thing in my life is surely YOU. You're worse than any pimp: you instill fear, you disrespect, and you create danger where none existed before. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Sincerely, Cara ps. Now with your new laws and assumed authority, you are in fact the one man in my life I cannot refuse or say no to. First things first before I post this. To Cara, very well said and kudos for being the strong, independent, intelligent woman you are. Now from the other side, here goes. Dear Mr. Harper, My name is Ernie(yes, I am using my real first name here), also known as peacectryguy on several forums that advertise and discuss topics related to escorts in Canada. I am 55 years young, separated and work as a plumber/ heating tech in one of the busiest areas of the country. I pay my taxes and am a contributor to the overall good of the economy and well being of this great nation. I am also what is referred to as a hobbyist. I am a customer/ client of ladies who offer companionship for a fee. These ladies are confident and smart and beautiful and in the real dating world, I would likely never meet or see ladies of this stature as I would probably consider them out of my league and never even approach them. You however, and your cronies, would refer to me as a degenerate pervert or some other derogatory term and an exploiter of women. This is far from the reality of my world. I visit and spend time with lovely ladies ranging in age from early 20's to late 40's.I make every effort to treat the ladies with respect and dignity. These ladies are neither coerced by me or anyone else, nor are they victims of violence or drug abuse. They are just people like all of us. Now for the catch. You have enacted a law that would make me a criminal and deprive me of my ability to work in certain places and limit my abilities to continue to contribute to our nation's well-being. By doing this, you also deprive the ladies that I have grown to know the ability to distinguish the difference between a gentleman such as myself and the very people you say you are protecting them from. They are therefore, put into much graver danger then they were before this came into effect. This also limits the free exchange of information and the means for all of us to stay safe in a world where there will always be a select few who prefer to exploit and harm their fellow man or woman. You would drive the entire industry into the underground darkness to hide it from your puritan view rather than bring it all into the light and see it for what it truly is. By doing this you not only make "criminals out of thousands of honest men" (I quoted that because a minister said that when prohibition was enacted), but you allow the real criminals in all of this to never be exposed, therefore putting many ladies well-being and lives in danger. In conclusion, I just want to say thank you for showing your true colors and letting us all know that you are really not worthy of a seat of power in a democracy. With your power, there is supposed to be an unbiased perspective for the good of all Canadians, not just those you deem worthy. I think I'll copy and paste that and send it to our honorable P.M. What do you all think?

The only sensible solution is to get more intimate in all of your communication: "Dear Armitage, Dunwitch & Whateley, Attorneys at Law: can you please quote me the price to draw up a few contracts, my delicious sweetie-pies? Thanks. Signed, Mr. Hun-hun Bunnycakes." Now all replies will look equally suspicious -- which means they will all look equally innocent!

Wow what an awesome night...so many wonderful people, great food, the venue was perfect and the show...wow! best social as of yet. I say let somebody read all the babes and huns and whatever they want in my texts. It means absolutely nothing and never will. Women call me hon all the time in public places. Cashiers, bank tellers, my customers (some old enough to be my grandma and that is really old), ladies I hold the door open for at the post office who I don't know. The list goes on and on. If anyone is worried about their wife or girlfriend seeing it, then just delete it immediately or don't read the silly thing in front of them in the first place. Here's a novel idea, turn your hobby phone right off when you aren't alone and in private. Solves the discretion problem in a heartbeat.

CamillaBR: I recently posted my (lawyer's) view on the subject of LE and private locations in a thread on MA's at http://www.lyla.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=201043, but I'll re-post to this thread and add a bit. It may help alleviate your fears. LE has no legal right to enter the premises of an MA's/business' private location. It is private property and they would need to have a search warrant issued by a Superior Court Judge to enter on site, and even then LE is not allowed to enter by force. They typically wait for the owner of the property to arrive. This idea of busting down doors is only on tv. Neither the MA/business nor the gentleman would agree to open the door while someone is knocking during a session and would certainly not discuss what took place behind closed doors. So, just finish the session and then leave. Even if LE intercepts the gentleman or the MA/business operator on their way out, LE will have no evidence that any illegal activity has taken place. By the way, if you are ever intercepted you have no obligation to speak to the police other than to identify yourself. Just don't say a word and walk away. This whole idea of LE asking you to go down to the station for questioning (i.e. interrogation) is just on tv. Just say no. If they try to stop you, just ask if you're under arrest. If the answer is no, you are legally allowed to just walk away and not say a word. If you are under arrest, immediately say only 4 words: ''I want a lawyer'' and shut up. No charges will stick and you'll be released that same day. And with regards to spa's, this is one of the reasons I like CMJ Ottawa so much (and also because of Melodie and friends :icon_biggrin:). It's a private member's club, so it's not a public place. Their front door is locked at all times and members have to buzz in on camera and identify themselves as a member with an appointment to get in. Perhaps other spas will follow suit and become private clubs. The same would go for a MA/business private location. It seems to me that the best scenario for an indy MA/business is to have a place where you have to buzz or call to come up. That way, LE would have to identify themselves and be let in (which won't happen). Even if they get in the building some other way, and come knocking at the door, they can't just enter without permission of the owner or someone who is occupying the premises. I think its best not to answer the knock at the door during a session no matter what, but even if one did without thinking, the police can't just walk in unless they have a warrant or are invited. If they enter without a warrant, any evidence gathered from the illegal search and anything that derives from it will be deemed inadmissible in Court because it would be considered the fruit of the poisonous tree. Either way, private locations are the way to go... and nothing illegal ever goes on there.. Relaxe, Y2K will be over in a few more hours.

You've beat me here .... :icon_wink: Being located in Montreal (and in Ottawa yesterday for that), my involvement was somewhat limited to doing things from a distance (i'm saying i had the easy job of the lot for this event). Having been in town a couple of weeks ago, maybe back in October, when i visited the venue before things went into full swing, that the brunt of the work was born by Loneskater's and Alexandria's shoulders. I've seen what was put in in terms of efforts and major investment, both in time and money, over the past few days, including yesterday, to make this happen. Cleaning, decorating, changing lightbulbs etc..... And Murphy was at work; what could go wrong in a building like this did go wrong. My vantage point was particular this time around; I helped organized but was also a spectator to the organisation (if that makes sense). I know, as i'm sure all of you are, that none of us organizers are in this to make money, just to bring members of the community together for a good time. As a sidetone, I've also gotten feedback from our performers overnight; they've enjoyed doing their numbers for us and stayed a little bit with us afterwards. Lengthy note, i know, just to tip my hat to my colleagues.

From all the ALO staff: We are very happy to be part of this amazing community Loneskater and Mister T did a great job. This 2 awesome guys don't get any benefit from this event, is just to keep us together and we all should appreciate that. Thank you for organizing this event. It was fantastic and sold out.

I will start with my apology. Though I was suppose to be at the social on Thurs, I was unfortunatly not able to attend. An unfortunate accident at work has injured me and thus I could not attend. I will, however, add thanks to both Mr T and Skater for all of their efforts. From the comments it was defintly one for the books and I will not be happy with having missed such an event. To a few of the ladies, I apologize for not at least having the opportunity to say hello and I will have to make amends (and hope that any drinks I owed can be rain-checked) at a later time.

I am finally able to add my congratulations to Loneskater and MisterT and of course the wonderful staff from ALO that hosted our festivities. The location was amazing! Private, fun and very well appointed - the staff was friendly and courteous and there was more than enough room for all of us to mix and mingle. I am hopeful that we can continue these ventures for years to come... it's a celebration of the amazing people in our shared adventure. Merry Christmas to each and every one of you, and to all those who couldn't attend!!!!

I may just be the exception but i never really got the benefit of a separate hobby phone.. in my opinion i think it would just increase my risk because I would have to explain why two phones. My preferred approach is to have a good smartphone (BlackBerry Passport for example). That allows you to turn off or customize notifications, has password access and that you can use privacy Apps to hide text and email messages from companions in encrypted hidden folders. I also use a contact management app that allows for hidden contacts that are only accessible with password. This approach has worked for years and the security features are easily explained due to the work info on my phones. I am able to openly chat with many companions with little concern about privacy. I understand about the phoniness of saying " Hun" and "Babe" to a person a lady hasn't even met yet but setting up a meeting by text and attempting to make it look like your average business transaction would be an exercise in futility. Best to make these arrangements by phone if possible and delete, delete, delete. Everyone's risk tolerance will be different and I am not sure it is fair to put the responsibility for it on the lady who is responding.... personally I see the management of that risk as something that is up to me and I would prefer the lady simply answer my text with any personal tone she is feeling. In addition to my last post and in response to Lester, I don't believe a complaint from a neighbour would change anything. LE still has to get in the building and knock on the door. The MA and gentleman can still just ignore the knocking at the door. The only scenario that could be different is if the neighbour makes specific complaints about criminal activity going on there and LE gets them to swear an affidavit in support of obtaining a search warrant. That being said, most of the Judges I know would not grant the warrant without very specific allegations from the neighbour. Speculation alone would be insufficient. IMO, the neighbour would have to go as far as saying they have seen money exchanged and overheard it was some form of solicitation. BUT, in any event, LE still can't just bust down the door in executing the search warrant, so we're back to the sanctity of private locations. To go further, even if one were charged (which would be a wrongful arrest IMO), the neighbour's credibility could easily be torn to shreds by defence counsel and if the search warrant is quashed, all evidence derived therefrom is inadmissible and charges will be dropped. From speaking with lawyers, law professors and judges, I have been told that the real purpose of the legislation is to focus on what is visible on the streets and go after human trafficking. A noble cause. I hate the thought of human beings forced into the industry. The legislators are not interested in what goes on in the privacy of the nation's bedrooms (or hotel rooms :icon_wink:). IMO, the collateral effect of this will push the industry more in the closet and what happens in private locations will stay private. Additional Comments: In response to Vivero's post yesterday, I'd like to point out that raids have been made at some spas in Ottawa in the past few years, even before this new legislation was on the radar. It does happen. I was fortunate enough not to be there when they occured and have to deal with the stress that would entail. But I was told by a lady I know well what happens. Essentially, LE shows up but does not try to create a panic or be too forceful. They ask politely if they can just come in and check things out because they want to make sure that the conditions are clean and safe, and make sure the girls are ok and no one is being forced to work there against their will. Once LE realized that the MA's are there on their own accord (and it really is their choice), LE left without the threat of any charges. I was told that the gentlemen who were there got a pass and LE did not ask them for ID or interview them. It was all about the safety of the girls. And this goes to the heart of this matter. IMO, private locations are safe from raids because of the process involved to execute a search warrant. Public places are not. However, I believe spa's are a bit safer for the MA's as opposed to being independent. If LE tries to shake down all the spa's, alot of these very same ladies would go indy and this may increase the risks by being one on one with an idiot in private (I do acknowledge that indy's have their own safety practices, but still). The effect of closing down all spas is the exact opposite of what this legislation is intended to be. So I do not expect that the manner in which raids have been conducted in the past will change with this new legislation. And for those places that are doing human trafficking - they have it coming and I believe charges are well deserved, and I would commend LE for a job well done in those cases.

Feeling very sad and depressed. This time last year my mother spent November and December in the hospital. January will be the first anniversary of her death. She died of bone cancer. :(

I am bringing 2 ladies and some mistletoe, what a lucky guy I am.

It is sad that our government is systematically taking away our freedoms and freedom of speech is the one we are talking about here.I despise this as much as anyone, especially in the week that we honor so many who have sacrificed so much for these freedoms. However, we have to do what we must to "weather the storm" as it were. This is hard for all of us and we will need to keep our wits about us and work together. Being divided amongst ourselves only hurts us. Let's support the site and the mods in their attempt to keep this community alive and safe for us all. What I see in this community is a great many intelligent, thoughtful adults, not a bunch of squabbling teenagers so let's try to remain civil with each other and united even in the face of something designed to tear this all apart. We will prevail in the long run. I truly believe that even though I admit that it won't be easy. I did not join this site for some "penthouse letters" talking about all the positions and details. I joined here because it seemed to rise above that with class and dignity. Maybe I'm talking out of my butt here but I want this place to go on and remain as a beacon of how to engage in this hobby the "right" way.

The site is already outside of Canada But it is owned and operated in Canada Simple, do you think Mod and other CERB/EC employees should leave Canada and operate CERB outside of Canada so you aren't disappointed assuming they can get a work visa The simplest thing they could do is shut it all down. But at least Mod and everyone, they are trying to find a solution and keep CERB going RG

Yeah, I accept this change in policy is necessary. But like Jabba I look forward to that word list so I can plan my post's content to avoid the "...."s that will make it unintelligible or just torpedo my point. Thanks for the hard work maintaining the site, mod, even in the face of new law.

I'm totally confused not only by this thread but the Cerb censor policy. Is there a list of censored words somewhere (so we know which words not to circumvent)? Is there a link to a specific & comprehensive set of new censorship rules somewhere?
