I have moved to digital for almost all my music but have kept most of the CD'S, albums, tapes and yes... 8-tracks but that's mainly because I am a pack rat. Could be other victims Police said that an ongoing investigation indicates the man could have had inappropriate contact with other minors and that other charges could be laid. Russett said that the church has "a plan to protect" that dictates that at least two adults be present when working with children. I agree with you Roaminguy that thinking of our retirement ahead of time is our responsibility. But I wish that such financial matters were taught in schools in a serious way. I don't know about here in schools, but in France (where I grew up) it is not taught at all. Managing your bank account properly, doing a budget, understanding that paying bills on time works well for your credit, but knowing when to avoid using credit, how to do savings and investments, RRSPs etc... and prepare for life as well as retirement. Therefore, in Europe, a lot of people grew up and grow up thinking that saving or investing is for "others who already have money" or "rich people". There is a book that I really love that should be offered to any teenager. It is "Rich by Thirty (A young adult's guide to financial success" by Lesley Scorgie (Key Porter books, 14.95$). And it is of interest to anybody who has not a clue at all about all these financial matters that are so important. And don't get mislead by the title, the way it is written and presented is very wise and educational, not a recipe to become a millionaire as soon as possible, but to make understand people, especially young ones, that the sooner they start the better, how to do it, and how their lifestyle has an impact on their finances. And a person needs to retire when he/she is prepared, financially and emotionally to leave work. People when they start working should prepare for retirement, be it get a job with a pension plan, save RRSPs/TFSA's etc. Thinking some young worker starting out is going to support you in retirement is in my opinion just wishful thinking But he/she shouldn't worry about someone looking for a job and retire just to create a vacancy for them. I don't think this is unusual. We have 2 yr program colleges that are far more intensive study and practicum in for example music, that UBC music grads would come to after their 4 years at university. i don't think one is better than another or better than not doing any formal education at all. It usually depends on what someone wants to get out of it and to do later. Sometimes it is about gaining some maturity, and being self directed to finish projects, papers, write exams. It can be about teaching self discipline. Expanding exposure to things (required reading is required for a reason lol) Technical or business college degrees might end up being more useful or transfer into work faster, due to some have closer ties with the local businesses. I have had some jobs where i would not ever have been hired without my diploma because it is a requirement in the job hiring description, along with other professional accreditations which i had to pursue on my own time. If i had wanted to be a poet, or writer of literature, or classical musician, i would have attended universtity, i do not think that higher education would be wasted for those who pursue those arts. i think those are the things that help train artists, & give them the skills to enable them to express themselves. You can have talent, but you rarely communicate it without technique, and technique is learned.

Or I guess it would be true to say that Canadian Universities get huge numbers of people College graduates who come to learn something that get them a career... I don't think this is or or be about one form OT education or training being better than another there are individuals in no formal education that succeed in amazing ways and different education and training are best for different careers. Learning either through form education at a University or college or trade apprenticeship programs or other more unique individual learning strategies is what allows you to develop and succeed. Is a for education right or needed by everyone no.... can a formal university education be instrumental in moving your career along yes...... lol but so could being at the right place at the right time. You should look into flux, it adjusts the screen so it no longer shines blue light at night. I've been using it for years! It's not perfect, but it helps. I had a kindle for ages, but it has since stopped working. I found it was great for travelling or reading while in the bath or at the beach, places where a book in a ziploc bag would be a little unwieldy or heavy to carry. I use my tablet to read academic texts for highlighting and annotations. I own lots and lots of physical books, but they're usually graphic novels or poetry or experimental writing, formats that ebooks haven't really adapted to yet, or that publishers don't really pay the same sensitivity to when publishing them in ebook form. Who says going digital has to be all or nothing, why not a little of both? In terms of other media though ... I own maybe 5 CDs, and maybe 3 DVDs, and that's all I have ever owned. I was raised on the internet man, I went straight from cassettes to napster. I look forward to the day when music can be beamed from the air and conducted directly into my bones.

As far as responsability goes, I don't think the youth has the right to complain for anything. If, as a responsible ''youth'', we would take care of our elders, even if it's not always easy and hard to manage, or at least make sure they have everything they need for proper living or cares, they wouldn't have to work. Life is funny at best. Some of us plan things - education, courting, marriage, kids, mortgage, career.. and then, ahh.. retirement. We work and work to provide for ourselves and family. Most of us plan to retire from work and start striking off bucket list items (travel, hobbies, etc). For many of us, life doesn't turn out as we "planned". Far from a straight line, our tapestry ends up looking like a figure-8. Then there is the old "live life to the fullest everyday" motto - again, for some of us, we're just trying to survive the day and start new the next day. There's the conundrum. Youth brings with it the health required for travel and other hobbies, but little in resources to execute. Age brings knowledge and wisdom (maybe) and perhaps more resources, but then our health begins to decline. At 47, I was forced into retirement (cutbacks from a previous federal government). But I was fortunate - still fairly healthy and had a few coins in the pocket.. no pension, but a few loonies in my RRSP. As with many things, I saw a silver lining. I get to sleep in until 7am on most days, I get to set my own schedule on most days. I volunteer with various organizations, so my mind and body are active. And the roof is still overhead and there's a table to put food on. While I can't afford to dine at Beckta every night, I can indulge in Swiss Chalet now and then.. and I go canoeing on the Ottawa River instead of taking cruises on the Mediterranean :-) I think the notion of "freedom 55" is outdated in 2016. But our western society depends on "older" folks to retire so that employable youth get a chance to start their adventures. Is it a social duty - yes, I think so - but 'mandatory' retirement by a certain age is becoming a dream for too many honest, hard-working folks. I'll be "retired" for three years next month. If I am careful with the finances, I should be ok. Fewer Starbucks lattés and more homemade coffee in a travel mug! Perhaps the "live life to the fullest" has more to do with attitude than the activity... CM

What a great topic. Mark Twain once wrote, "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." Indeed, education and schooling are two different things, but they do paths cross on occasion. An engineer by trade, university was a requirement for me. But learning the four laws of thermodynamics did nothing for me when it came to changing a soiled diaper, or putting my daughter's hair in a bun for her ballet classes, or making homemade soup. My daughter just started on her post-secondary education adventure. We had long discussions on whether university or college or a vocational institution was "best" for her. Academically strong, my daughter also has a passion for the arts (ballet, piano, drawing). In the end, she decided on college - which I supported wholeheartedly. She's following a passion in a field that requires strong math and science, while encourages imagination and artistic values. I on the other hand, stuck with something I was good at, not necessarily what I had a passion for. Our society is made up of many individuals with different tastes, different strengths, different comfort zones. Risk takers often do best running their own business, whereas those who need structure tend to do better in a "9 to 5" type of job. In the end, most of us find our comfort zone... and formal schooling and "school of life" are pieces of the puzzle to finding that happy place. A university education may not guarantee you a job/career at the end. But the continuous education from the "school of life" will help prepare you for most situations as we continue our journeys on this planet... CM

Unless there was more going on here then a strict Business relationship then I would have to agree with Carrie on this one I don't think there is any financial obligation to your service provider.... You are not paying her bills you are purchasing time and companionship from her so unless you have made other more specific contractual arrangement with her that's where it ends. Now having said that I would add that while I don't think there is an ongoing financial obligation I do think that if you have developed a regular and frequent schedule of bookings ie every Tuesday at 3 and you or her are thinking of ending or changing that arrangement then it should be brought up with the other party ASAP so that either party can plan accordingly. I have been at this for about 5 years and still feel a bit of a nimrod.
