I would like to nominate Peachy because of her initiative with the CERB book club. I really appreciate all of the hard work she does maintaining the social group, and creating the polls, etc. Here's my favourite picture of her. You're my goddess today, Peachy! (p.s. I just voted!)

The highlight of my day is realizing that there's nothing wrong with going to school part-time. I have what I like to call 'exceedingly high standards of personal excellence' and this means I work too hard sometimes, to the detriment of my mental health. Balance is important, and I found mine today! The past couple of weeks have shown me that it's important I prioritize my friends and family in my life right now. They are my support network and I love them dearly! Being a teacher's assistant, research assistant, on top of full-time course work and escorting has been really difficult! I'm going to take my time while I do my M.A. and enjoy life a little bit. Sorry for disappearing on you all while I figured that out!

So, I have this huge California King pillow top bed. It is near impossible to find bedding for it. Because it is so big and high, i have the boxspring right on the ground which means I can't really use a bedskirt. I found this awesome comforter and bedskirt and decided to ask my mom to sew the bedskirt to the comforter so that it will fit the bed and hide the box spring. Fast forward yesterday morning. My parents live about an hour out of town but needed to come in for some doctors appts yesterday morning. I decided to invite them over for a big breakfast! After eating, my mom went upstairs to gather the humongo comforter and bedskirt. Arms completely full, down the stairs she comes. She miscalculated and missed the last step and twisted her ankle. She assured my dad and I that she was fine and off they went to their appts. This morning, my dad calls and tells me of how they spent 5hrs in the emergency room last night and now my mom has six weeks of a non-walking cast on her broken foot. I feel bad :( Additional Comments: My best guess Angela! Is that the cranks lay with the missing socks! CrankF...no crank compares to you!

I would take the comment with a grain of salt. People tease me all the time that I don't have a real job. What I do have is the flexibility to work when I want, take as many holidays as I want and work as hard as I want without anyone looking over my shoulder and telling me what I should or should not do. I could never work for somebody else at this stage in my life. Fortunately, I love my job, work hard and on weekends when I have to and I make a very nice living.

I envy you ladies sometimes. I absolutely hate my government job (and yes, contrary to stereotype, I do earn my pay). Twenty eight years in a government department in which I deal with, using a politically correct term LOL (if you knew who they are you'd laugh at my choice of term too) clients...very anti social clients. And my employer facilitates a negative work environment. Let's not forget my union, I've lost count of the stab wounds in my back received from my union...hell I trust management more than them. I would love to have some other job but it's kinda too late and too close to retirement now But my real point in this post isn't to cry over my job situation, no. I can relate as I did what few public servants would ever do, I Q-U-I-T. Even this was difficult and met with disbelief (my boss called me the next day to ask why I wasn't at work) -- like are you for real? I know I quit yesterday and then the oh my gosh what about your pension stuff, and then the appropriate response so what? So they sent me a letter and said well, we will stop your pay but we want to give you 6 months to reconsider :) After six months I wrote back and said thanks for the opportunity, bye bye. Best decision I ever made, I make more money in a typical day than they used to pay me in a month, other days nothing. I suspect that some successful SPs are much the same. Better to be your own boss... Do I actually have a job now? Some would say no, others would say yes, you employ people so you are the boss. I'm never quite sure but I'm not hurting financially and also able to be moral -- that's all that's important to me now. So I think SPs that enjoy their work and give value for the funds received are doing what they do best, same as me. Call it not a real job if you dare :) I say just don't fall into the trap of working 100% of the the time for another 2% of your pension. Life is too short for that.

I love big pups, like the Irish Wolfhound, a pony-sized breed, but is extremely gentle and docile, who like to cuddle!! As some of you know, I also trained dogs for mobility assist to help out people with mobility issues. Labs (of course) a breed that wants to please its master all the time, German Shepherds are a breed that are very loyal, smart and also good protectors and oddly enough, Standard Poodles who are brilliant, easy to train, little or no fur flying around, and without the goofy hair cuts, are a pretty breed as well.

Well the whole point of the thread was questioning whether or not it is a real job.

Disclaimer...no berating those who do not share the same interests as you lol :) So, this thread is dedicated to those tv shows and movies that you find incredibly cheesy/bad. This came about after watching Vegas tonight. I will give it another try but the scene where the title character (notice my undivided interest...can't even give the characters name) stood out on a landing strip and as the car raced towards him, shot out one tire and then a second resulting in the car careening off minutes before impact. CHEESY!

Is the "H" word actually banned here? I took a quick look at the rules and couldn't see anything specifically on point. If not, maybe it should be banned if its going to inflame passions like this. Other than Shayla's use of that term, and the use of that term in reference to this board, she seems to just be expressing a point of view about whether this is a job or not. Its the minority view, and most would disagree, but wasn't that the whole point of Cristy's post to begin with? Of course its a a job, but that's my opinion. And before anyone comments on this, or adds another comment to this string about Shayla's posts, they really ought to go back and read them as it seems to me that many have not. Again, try to forget the references to the H word, and I dont see how the posts are disrepectful. In fact, she makes a point of accepting other people's points of view and says that she enjoys working as an SP. And her other posts on other topics are nothing out of the ordinary. The absolutely worst thing that can happen to this community is someone to get banned. It should be a last resort and only after there have been warnings and an opportunity for people to change. This is not about someone violating the soliciting rules, or spamming ... its about someone who expressed a point of view about something that people found offensive. I just find that really sad.

I've never been much for yappy little lapdogs. I prefer large beasts. If wolves were legal as pets I would totally dig that....but alas. But really, my favorite breed is the Dogue De Bordeaux aka French Mastiff. I know I probably will never be able to get one until after I retire, apparently they're very friendly but also require a lot of attention and training. It's not the type of dog I would be able to leave at home alone all day, unless I was willing to buy new furniture every week :p But I personally think they're just about the most adorable thing I've ever laid eyes on. And as for why I want one? Because of this movie, and this scene in particular lol. When i first saw this I said to myself "Yup, I gotta get me one of those":

I have some pretty crappy days, but sunday was a good day to be me. At crack of dawn, headed up through the Adirondack Park and as the elevation got higher, the sun got brighter. Brunch, glass of champagne, a stroll, and people watching in Lake Placid. Back down the pike to my cousin's camp on Saranac Lake for the final, brisk ride of the season on the party barge. Cruising on a mountain lake surrounded by flaming Fall foliage, enjoying some tasty craft brewed IPA's. Back to camp for fish fry and bbq, followed by homemade cheesecake 3 flavors, and Coyote Moon Cherry Bomb wine on the deck. Saw one cousin from Texas who's been gone 10 years, and met his awsome little kids, and saw another one home from Afghanistan. Headed home, stopped at a farmstand and bought 4 varieties of fresh apples. The only bummer, I wish my back wasn't so fu----ed, so I could've done the journey on the Harley. A great day.

I was just reflecting on CarreM's thoughtful post and it made me think of two of dear old Mom's favorite sayings and how they pertain to this whole thread: 1)"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" . Shayla should have realized early on that peeps were agitated. If she would have backed off and taken stock, she could've made a conciliatory statement or not replied at all, but she couldn't shut up. 2)"The Lord( choose your own Higher Power) helps those who help themselves". People shouldn't be ashamed of their work. Anyone physicaly able, who contributes to commerce, whether on her feet at McD's or on her back(lol),is of a higher order than the bottom feeders. I myself have done things as varied as shoveling shit, and managing a new car franchise( for th at job I had to be full of shit, lol). I'm a believer in second chances, having had some mysel,f and Shayla deserves a chance, after a good long time out to reflect on her actions.

I never met a dog I didn't love. Currently, the love of my life is an old retired hunting beagle. We're not sure exactly how old. Hell, we're not even really sure who he is. Everybody calls him something different. I call him "Dude," but recently, due to his skill in getting me to put out with the treats, that's sort of morphed into "Cube." We have taken in rescued dogs for thirty years, and usually had four at a time. We just have the one fella now, but our house has become the favourite destination for dogggies of friends and neighbours when their families are out-of-town. Some weekends, we have several staying here. We love it! It reminds me of what people say about grandkids: we get to spoil them, enjoy them, and then send them home! Too easy! ;)

Yea I use shampoo and conditioner on my facial hair. I do find it a bit softer. It's not often I get to grow a beard, so when I get the chance, there is nothing i shave for. Lol.

I think that depends on the type of ad and the context in which the phrase is used. I have the term "open-minded" on my website and in some of my ads. In these instances I'm using it to describe my personality. So in my case it means that I am open-minded in the discussions and conversations I have with others (the common usage of the term). In cases where the focus of the ad is a bit more down and dirty, it probably means that she doesn't want to get into listing all her services, but she hopes you won't be too shy to ask about what you want. So I think your interpretation is pretty fair in many cases. Hopefully if there is a more specific way the term is used then another gentleman or lady will enlighten us, both. But I've found that there is almost no industry-standard language other than the very obvious acronyms. Most of the rest is up for interpretation.

I belong to most hobby boards across Canada and some in the US. Although every board has rules and guidelines, we are human at the end of the day. I do not condone what Shayla said but life is about learning and I think she probably has learned a tough lesson here. I would hope that warnings and forgiveness are also part of our life lessons that we pass along. I've read her posts several times and being that they are in a form of words only and we cannot get a true sense of tone, many may conclude differently what her intent was. Having said that it was likley a 'reaction' she was seeking with her intent but we really don't know. I would hope that Shayla could be given a second chance as I have witnessed worse dialogs on other boards with smaller punishments. I'm sure she would be grateful as I anticipate there is not many options to advertise for Halifax and Charlottetown and being banned from CERB is likely more detrimental to her location then say if she was advertisng in Toronto or Montreal. My two cents.
